The Red Gate Group is seeking a Desktop Engineer/Lead Systems Administrator to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this key role, you will provide technical leadership and support for protecting critical information systems and assets. As the lead systems administrator, you will ensure mission-critical networks run smoothly by implementing and managing hardware, software, and troubleshooting solutions. You’ll work in a dynamic environment, providing both Tier I and Tier II customer service, and using your expertise to manage enterprise applications, SCCM, MECM, and MCM, as well as physical and virtual workstations.
You’ll collaborate with team members to identify and resolve technical challenges while ensuring the security and performance of DoD networks. Your role also involves translating technical metrics into actionable insights, which you’ll communicate clearly to stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Tier I and Tier II support for IT systems, including incident and problem management.
- Manage and troubleshoot enterprise applications and services (SCCM, MECM/MCM).
- Configure, manage, and maintain both physical and virtual servers, workstations, and network resources.
- Oversee LAN/WAN networks and ensure optimal performance in a distributed network environment.
- Implement industry best practices for system security, hardware, software, and performance in line with DoD standards.
- Communicate technical findings and solutions clearly to stakeholders.
- Active TS/SCI
- 4+ years of experience with IT systems support, including Tier I and Tier II customer services and incident and problem management
- Experience managing enterprise applications and services, SCCM and MECM or MCM, and providing configuration and troubleshooting support to DoD365 customers
- Experience with the management of both physical and virtual workstations, servers, and network resources, including build, configure, and manage devices in a LAN or WAN topography
- Experience with DoD environments, standards, processes, and policies, and the implementation of industry best practices for hardware, software, and system performance and security
- Knowledge of Microsoft Directory Services, including DNS, DHCP, Group Policy Management, and Certificate services
- Ability to communicate, collaborate, and solve complex problems with innovative solutions
- DoD 8570 Compliant IAT level II Certification
- Completion of Compute Environment Training
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with IT Project Management and various methodologies
- Experience with collaboration software, email services, and cloud technologies
- Experience using vulnerability and compliance tools, including Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP), and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG)
- Experience administering Linux or UNIX systems
- Knowledge of ITIL standards of service
- Knowledge of programming languages, including PowerShell, Python, or Bash
