Role Overview
Joining our established Design Management team, the successful candidate will work closely with a Design Manager and support team. They will be responsible for overseeing the management and delivery of design information during both the pre-construction and construction phases of projects.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical knowledge in design, enabling them to establish, evaluate, and challenge design deliverables. Additionally, this role requires effective leadership skills to guide external design teams and collaborate with clients and internal project teams, ensuring alignment and the successful achievement of project goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the design team and consultant appointments throughout the course of a project in both the pre-construction and construction phase of a project.
- Pre-construction phase; interpret client brief and manage/assist in the production of the Contractors’ Proposals, ensuring they are complete, unambiguous, have been reviewed by the Pre-con team and have been updated to include all pre-construction information and agreements.
- Lead / attend design focussed pre-construction project development meetings with the client and design teams.
- Assess pre-construction information and confirm gaps to inform strategy in developing the design. Confirm any additional information required to result in a complete de-risked design.
- Define and agree designer and consultant responsibilities to ensure there are no gaps in the design delivery of a project.
- Review design and suggest alternative approaches that may result in safe, compliant, buildable efficiencies in the design and build of a project along with value engineering opportunities.
- Review design proposals and advise of sustainable alternative methodologies or materials resulting in a lower carbon impact.
- Produce, agree and manage, with all relevant parties, a realistic design programme and information required schedule to satisfy design, procurement and construction requirements.
- Manage construction phase reviewable design as a part of any contract ensuring the client expectations are managed throughout the process and designers present options within the set aside budget.
- Manage the design on site, sometimes with the assistance of other site-based resource, by implementing the design management process to ensure the timely production of information is issued.
- Monitor agreed sustainability issues related to design. Ensure relevant BREEAM etc. certification is issued.
- Provide guidance to the Project Team on items related to design.
- Ensure that all Design deliverables are reviewed upon receipt by the project team to establish they are within budget, in line with Contractors Proposals and are fully coordinated and are buildable.
Requirements

Essential:
- Hold a full driving licence, valid in the UK.
- Previous knowledge and experience within a design role in the Construction Industry.
- Have knowledge and a good understanding of up to date Building Regulations, design standards and best practice such as British Standards, DFE standards including Spec21, Building Bulletins, Health Technical Memorandums, Robust Details, etc.
- Have knowledge of the differing design development routes such as RIBA, Building Information Modelling and PAS 2038.
- Ability to work using own initiative but also as part of a close knit team.
- Excellent levels of computer literacy, and be fluent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Have a proactive attitude towards delivering construction works to a world-class standard.
- Hold excellent communications skills and the ability to liaise with senior clients & supply chain.
- Possess good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a variety of tasks.
- Possess a positive approach to learning, development and progression.
- Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out of hours working may be required).
- Have working knowledge of current Health and Safety practice.
- Prior experience of using Common Data Environments such as Viewpoint.
- Hold appropriate professional qualifications and/or chartership status.
Desirable:
- Previous knowledge working with Local Authority, public sector, higher education and Blue-Chip commercial clients.
- Have knowledge of, or be committed to developing knowledge of, sustainable and carbon reduction design solutions.
- Be committed to mentoring the team to develop knowledge and approaches across the business.
