DRE for exterior lighting is responsible for working with PDO to develop the first surface of the headlamp or tail lamp, work with the supplier to develop the B surface (housing and lighting internals), develop the lamp output to meet legal and customer requirements, all packaging and mounting requirements to BIW, Fender, Grill, Fascia or Bumper surrounding components.
Engineer needs to support meeting throughout NA work hours and work closely with local engineering teams, Architecture/Vehicle Concepts, program science teams & PDO to develop and launch exterior lighting components and overall system.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited or equivalent program
Minimum 2 years design, release and CAD packaging experience
Experience designing and developing large injection molded components
Experience with injection molding, painting, and decorating plastic components
Release experience in both Mechanical and electrical components, Ability to work in a team environment
Strong written and oral communication skills Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Computer proficient (including spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and database applications)
Experience with OEM or supplier design and release
Experience with Catia V5, NX, and Teamcenter
Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, and validation plans
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree
Working knowledge of designing for EMC and ESD design/prevention
Electronics/electrical simulation experience, thermal management, electronic packaging, and FEA
Prior exposure to automotive lighting specifications and standards an asset; electronics specifications expertise
Problem solving skills
Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
