The Verge is seeking a Deputy Editor, Reviews and Commerce to manage a large team of editors, reviewers, and writers and oversee a crucial piece of our editorial and business strategy.
The Verge is the only publication in the world that can connect the forces that shape the technology world with the actual everyday experience of using consumer tech products. Our expertise across coverage areas feeds into our industry-leading reviews program, where we can not only help people decide what to buy but how to understand the choices in front of them.
In a consumer technology market that is increasingly concentrated and shaped by a handful of big companies, The Verge’s reviews program is an essential and relentless advocate for actual people. Whether it’s comparing smartphone cameras, dissecting privacy policies, or musing about the future of augmented reality, The Verge’s reviews program is rigorous, thoughtful, and deeply integrated into the larger context of technology and culture.
As Deputy Editor for Reviews and Commerce, you will be responsible for overseeing The Verge’s best-in-class reviews and commerce teams. You’ll directly manage a team of editors, working with them to assign, edit, and plan coverage around consumer tech reviews, buying guides, and how-to articles. This is an expansive remit — you’ll need to be able to jump between assigning a deals post, editing a flagship review, and refining a pitch about the intersection of AI and photography, all while planning the next weeks of our coverage.
You will also collaborate closely with other editors on how to cover product news and announcements and partner with Verge leadership and other company stakeholders to manage our audience and business goals.
As we face major disruptions to the way people discover new products, such as social video and generative search, you should be a strategic and visionary leader who can quickly change our strategy to meet audience demands.
