As the Deputy Chief Software Engineer, you will be accountable for overseeing all aspects of software development within our organization, reporting to the Chief Engineer.  You will lead a team of talented engineers to design, develop, and implement cutting-edge software solutions for spacecraft and aerospace systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in end-to-end software engineering for space missions or other complex critical systems. Previous experience with spacecraft flight software in a leadership is a must, along with a proven track record of ownership, delivery and innovation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the software development team in the design, development, and implementation of spacecraft software and software systems of systems.
  • Define and implement software development processes and best practices to ensure high quality and timely delivery of software products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define system architectures, identify and map interdependencies and establish technical roadmaps.
  • Author and maintain company best practices for software development and test.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the team.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in software engineering and related aerospace technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors in software (Masters preferred), computer science or a related field with 10-15 years relevant experience. We will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in aerospace software development, such as C, C++, and Ada.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and development environments, such as VxWorks, RT Linux, or Green Hills Integrity.
  • Familiarity with model-based development tools and languages, such as MATLAB/Simulink, SCADE, or LabVIEW.
  • Knowledge of software verification and validation techniques, including unit testing, integration testing, and formal methods.
  • Understanding of typical spacecraft communication and data protocols, such as RS-422, Spacewire, Ethernet and other high speed SERDES (XAUI, SRIO) and MIL-STD-1553.
  • Familiarity with FPGA programming languages and development tools, such as VHDL or Verilog, and experience with FPGA-based development boards, such as Xilinx or Altera.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git or Subversion, and issue tracking tools, such as Jira or Bugzilla.
  • Familiarity with software development tools for static code analysis, code coverage, and requirements traceability, such as LDRA, VectorCAST, or DOORS.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices for aerospace systems, including secure coding standards and vulnerability assessment techniques.
  • Experience developing and deploying error detection and correction protocols, software implemented operations protections and other radiation and fault mitigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of software safety standards and guidelines, such as DO-178C, DO-254, and ARP4761, and experience with software certification processes.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles and methodologies, including requirements analysis, system architecture design, and system integration testing.
  • Previous experience authoring and maintaining Failure Modes and Effects Analyses.
  • Experience with redundant systems and implementation variations.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:

  • Competitive salary based upon experience - $145,000 - $165,000. The salary posted is a targeted range for budget of position.  Base compensation can be negotiated and will be commensurate with experience, skills, education, and training.
