Database Reliability Engineer - Platforms

Candidates for this position are preferred to be based in Bangalore, India and will be expected to comply with their team's hybrid work schedule requirements.

We partner with Product, Experience Design, Analytics and business leaders across Wayfair; our Storefront Engineering teams ensure that we’re building technology that solves important customer problems in elegant, scalable, measurable ways. 

Bengaluru is home to our brand new, strategic technology delivery center and will be critical to achieving our future growth plans. We are looking for best in class Engineers to come in and help scale our technical products and teams alike as we continue on our path to be the world’s number one online destination for the home. As one of the early members of the team here in our strategic technology delivery center, you will partner closely with our technology and business leaders from around the world to help build the platform to support our growth plans to $50B USD and beyond in the next 3 to 5 years. 

The team in the Bengaluru delivery center can work across multiple domains that drive speed and convenience for the customer and cost efficiency across the full value chain. The work we do at Wayfair means we have to move quickly, collaborating with the best and brightest engineers, creatives, product managers, data scientists, and analysts to discover, build, and scale world-class software products.

What You’ll Do

  • Implement solutions and automation for managing petabyte-scale database environments
  • Improve observability by implementing monitoring, tracing and logging, enabling exposure of Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and adherence to Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
  • Implement a data-driven approach to performance and availability improvements to stakeholder database systems
  • Assist application teams in their journey to decouple large monolithic databases
  • Act as a lead engineer for production incidents to drive collaboration, resolution, identification of root cause, and changes required to prevent future occurrences
  • Participate in a follow the sun on-call rotation supporting and troubleshooting database issues off-hours and during promotional events
  • Design and implement self-service offerings for frictionless onboarding based on stakeholder requirements
  • Mentor junior engineers to develop the next generation of Wayfair engineering

What You’ll Need

  • 5+ years of experience in a senior engineering or technical lead role
  • 1+ years of experience with at least one of the following languages/frameworks: PowerShell, Python
  • Expertise in SQL Server - preferably, exposure or experience in at least one of the following cloud database technologies: Cloud SQL for Postgres, Cloud Spanner
  • Experience working with SQL Server's High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions 
  • Experience working with public cloud providers such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, and running database systems at large scales/volumes
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management tools such as Terraform and Puppet
  • Proven experience in automating operational and manual database tasks 
  • Proven experience and successful track record of leading ambitious large scale projects as an individual contributor
  • Experience in leading complex technical projects and collaborating with other teams across organization boundaries
  • String written and oral communication skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with developers, vendors and leadership
