iHerb’s Data Platform department is responsible for developing and enhancing database infrastructure to support the growth of the business and to promote highly available, stable and secure database systems.
Reporting to the Team Lead of Data Platform, the Sr. DBA will contribute to the overall engineering, design, build and high level support of all existing and new Microsoft SQL Server systems (SQL 2016 higher), mongoDB systems, DynamoDB as well as several other data stores owned by the data platform team. As a Senior team member, the successful candidate will need to work closely with our stakeholders and team members to develop consensus and find solutions to problems facing their business constituents.
The Sr. DBA II will work with IT development teams to assist in the implementation, development, deployment and administration of the databases that support the company's IT data integration initiatives. This candidate should be able to lead projects from inception to completion with little or no supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of all iHerb databases.
● Work to ensure that the proper resources are allocated to the databases, and to ensure high
resilience and performance.
● Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
● Responsible for providing trend analysis to the management team to enable them to make
informed decisions regarding resource management.
● Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving SQL development issues.
● Responsible for assisting developers to optimize, tune and enhance database queries
● Responsible for improvement and maintenance of all databases, to include rollout and upgrades.
● Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales
and costs.
● Responsible for proposing and implementing database architectural changes to make database
infrastructure highly scalable and optimized
● Take on technical leadership responsibilities of database projects across various teams in the
organization
● Responsible for mentoring developers on data modeling best practices and enabling them to
come up with a optimized data model
● iHerb operates a 24x7 e-com platform. On-call / off-hours deployments and support will be
required.
Skills / Attributes Required
● Masters in Computer Science or related field are desirable
● 8+ years of in-depth SQL Server Database architecture and administration experience
● 1+ years of experience on NoSQL technologies in MongoDB, DynamoDB, TimeScaleDB, etc
● Experience in designing highly scalable database architectures and data models
● Extensive experience in High availability designs, Business Continuity processes, and conducting Disaster Recovery exercises
● Experience of managing SQL server & mongoDB clusters
● Strong self-sufficiency and initiative working on Database projects
● Experience in mentoring team members
● Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases
● Experience with T-SQL, SSIS, stored procedures, Javascript, JSon, Powershell, Shell scripting
● Strong knowledge of Multi-Instance implementations and methodologies
● Experience with database clustering, Availability Groups, Replication, Log Shipping and Change
Data Capture
● Experience of managing SQL Server on AWS cloud platform
● Experience with CI/CD processes and scripting languages: Ansible, Terraforms, Jenkins
● Knowledge of Kafka or other streaming processes is desirable
● Technical certifications (AWS, SQL Server, MongoDB) are desirable
