The Opportunity

Picarro is transforming gas utility operations with innovative solutions for methane emissions management, risk-informed leak prioritization, and pipeline asset optimization. As a Data Analyst in Picarro’s Gas Business Unit, you will play a crucial role in developing analytical tools, extracting insights from complex datasets, and driving operational enhancements.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Climate and Safety Solutions, you will work with cross-functional teams to develop ETL pipelines, automate data processing, and create reports that enhance internal decision-making and customer outcomes. The role is ideal for candidates with 1-2 years of experience or a recent Master’s or Ph.D. graduate with strong data analysis skills.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Data Processing and ETL Development – Build and optimize automation tools and ETL pipelines for cleaning, normalizing, and structuring large-scale sensor and operational data.
  • Analysis and Insights – Conduct data analysis on time-series, sensor, and geospatial datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and operational improvements.
  • Collaboration – Work with product management, engineering, and customer success teams to ensure data workflows meet business needs.
  • Automation – Develop scripts and processes in Python and SQL to improve data ingestion, processing, and reporting.
  • Documentation and Reporting – Maintain clear documentation of methodologies, workflows, and results to support internal teams and customers.
  • Customer Support – Assist in generating analytical deliverables and visualizations to support customer projects and business objectives.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Proficiency – Strong Python and SQL skills for data automation and analysis.
  • Statistical and Analytical Skills – Solid foundation in statistics, including hypothesis testing and uncertainty quantification.
  • Data Engineering Exposure – Experience with ETL, data cleaning, and automation techniques.
  • GIS (Preferred but Not Required) – Familiarity with GIS tools (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS) for geospatial analysis is a plus.
  • Communication – Ability to translate technical findings into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem-Solving – Proactive approach to improving data processes and solving data quality challenges.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field (or Bachelor’s with 1-2 years of experience in a relevant role).
  • Experience in Python, SQL, and data automation workflows.
  • Exposure to geospatial, time-series, or measurement data.
  • Industry experience in natural gas, utilities, or infrastructure is a plus.
  • Experience with ETL development, reporting automation, or cloud-based data processing is preferred.
