Role Description

We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our growing product team and help drive data-driven decision-making at Nile. As a Data Scientist, you will leverage analytical techniques and machine learning algorithms to derive actionable insights from complex data sets. This role will be pivotal in enhancing our operational efficiency and optimizing our decision making to better serve our customers.

Requirements

As a Data Scientist at Nile, you will

  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic decision-making
  • Develop predictive models and algorithms to enhance product offerings and improve customer experience, while also working with the team to deploy these models directly into our backend for real time impact on the platform
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of implemented models to ensure effectiveness
  • Work with the backend team on our Librarian service (written in Go) to manage data pipelines between all of Nile's systems and our Data Warehouse (Big Query)
  • Optimize the usability and performance of the Data Warehouse (Big Query) integration with our data visualisation tools (e.g Looker, Mode, Hex)
  • Help Nilers understand their reports and communicate their findings to stakeholders through data visualization
  • Work directly with the founders and the rest of the leadership team to implement key projects and drive a data first culture at Nile

The ideal candidate for this role has

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R or Go, with a strong foundation in statistical analysis and machine learning
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Mode, Hex) and databases (e.g., Big Query, SQL)
  • A passion for data science and agriculture
  • A continuous improvement mindset, and an ability to pick up new skills quickly
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, remotely distributed team
  • To be honest, open, caring, and driven to succeed
