About the Role
Join Figment as a Data Engineering Manager and lead a team at the cutting edge of data engineering and blockchain technology. As the Data Engineering Manager, you will guide your team in building scalable, secure data pipelines and infrastructure to process and analyze blockchain data. You will play a key role in shaping the team's strategy, improving automation, and driving technical excellence in cloud infrastructure and data operations.

Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, overseeing the full lifecycle of data projects, from design and implementation to production and continuous improvement.
- Serve as project manager for all team deliverables, ensuring alignment of priorities with project owners and gathering requirements from stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Manage the team’s workflow and project tracking, including creating and managing Jira tickets, maintaining the project board, running retrospectives, and ensuring smooth delivery of tasks by removing blockers and facilitating communications.
- Navigate and resolve challenging situations, including mediating disagreements within the team, balancing shifting priorities, and addressing stakeholder concerns or frustrations, while maintaining focus on delivering high-quality results. Willingness and ability to suggest “no” to stakeholders above your pay grade.
- Initiate, negotiate, and maintain relationships with vendors, ensuring that the team has the necessary tools and technologies, while managing contracts, licenses, and integrations to support ongoing project and business needs.
- Oversee all direct report responsibilities, including conducting performance reviews, handling time-off requests, addressing personnel issues, and holding regular weekly 1:1 meetings to support team members’ growth and well-being.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of reliable, scalable data pipelines using tools like Dagster and DBT, ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
- Ensure the team automates and improves data infrastructure to enhance processing speed and reliability, with a focus on blockchain data analytics and reporting.
- Foster a culture of best practices in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, and security across the team.
- Identify areas for process improvements, tools, and technologies to enhance team efficiency and performance.
- Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new team members, ensuring alignment with Figment’s technical and cultural values.
Key Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience as a data or software engineer, with hands-on experience in designing, coding, and deploying software solutions in a cloud or on-prem environment, as well as architecting, documenting, and executing development projects within a collaborative team setting.
- 4+ years of professional experience in project management or equivalent, with a proven ability to plan, execute, and oversee complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with business goals, managing timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations, and driving successful outcomes
- 4+ years of professional experience managing individual contributors (5-10) in a fast-paced environment, capable of handling high-pressure situations and managing competing priorities while maintaining focus on delivering results in a dynamic and sometimes stressful setting.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with blockchain or Web3 technologies and an understanding of decentralized systems like Proof-of-Stake or Proof-of-Work.
- Experience managing distributed teams across multiple time zones, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
- Exposure to monitoring and data quality tools to ensure the integrity and reliability of data pipelines.

Base Salary: The CAD base salary range for this position is CAD $180,000 - $200,000. The US base salary range for this position is USD $180,000 - $200,000. This range reflects base salary only, and does not include additional compensation or benefits. For candidates in other countries, the pay range will be disclosed upon your first interview with Figment (being a globally remote company, the list of salary ranges would simply be too long to note here!). The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum range for a new hire across all Canada or the US. A candidate’s specific pay within the range will be determined by various factors including job-related skills, relevant education, and training.
