Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Data Engineer to take ownership of our data infrastructure from end to end, playing a key role in driving Pinwheel’s next stage of growth. You will help us decode customer insights and trends in order to identify high impact product opportunities.You will design, craft, and optimize our data architecture, pipelines, and reporting solutions to fuel and enhance our growing data needs as we scale our business. Working cross-functionally to understand business requirements, you will offer expertise and drive informed decision-making; collaborating closely with Product, Engineering and Sales.

What will you be doing?

  • Own the foundational data layer (data lake) that serves all analytics and important product functions
  • Build efficient data models to support advanced analytics and critical business insights
  • Unlock high quality and self serviceable insights by maintaining data tooling, platforms and dashboards 
  • Work closely with product and engineering teams to nurture our data driven culture and build innovative data products
  • Be a leader on best data practices to maintain our high data security standards
  • Be an ambassador for data literacy by teaching others how to use data more effectively

What experience, skills, and qualifications are necessary?

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+  years of experience in Data Engineering, working on large scale data and cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and data ETL tools (e.g., AWS DMS, Apache Airflow, …)
  • Strong proficiency with database solutions like AWS Redshift and Aurora
  • Experienced with Looker, Tableau, or similar BI tools for building dashboards and visualizations
  • Familiarity with data streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis)
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment
  • Strong business acumen; an ability to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions

At Pinwheel, total compensation is made up of salary + equity + benefits. We recruit motivated and high performing talent, and work to compensate people in line with the value they can bring to the organization in delivering outsized results. The talent market is competitive, and maintaining our ability to recruit and retain the best team possible is a top priority for Pinwheel. When creating an offer, we consider interview performance, candidate experience, external market competitiveness, and internal equity in thoughtfully assessing compensation. The expected cash salary range for this role is $161,000 to $190,000.
