Working in Weather Trading

Statkraft trades energy products in more than 20 countries and is active on 13 energy exchanges. Proprietary trading takes place mainly from trading rooms in Oslo, Düsseldorf, London and the Unites States.

Statkraft's Weather Trading team builds and executes a portfolio of quantitative trading strategies based on meteorological and power market models. To achieve this, highly qualified meteorologists, strategists, and data scientists collaborate in order to generate unique insights. The team heavily relies on weather and power market data.

As a Data Engineering Intern in Weather Trading you’ll:

  • Learn about the commodities markets and trading
  • Get insight into state-of-the art weather predictions and weather data
  • Collaborate with data scientist to understand data needs and provide necessary data support
  • Setup processes to extract and load more data into our database
  • Work on optimizing existing data pipelines for better performance and reliability
  • Manage and monitor our automated data ingestion pipelines and troubleshoot issues
  • Analyse and produce models from our data to aid in trading decisions
  • Extend and continue to build out our team’s analysis dashboards

About you:

  • Recent graduate or university student enrolled in Computing, Maths, Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar degree
  • You have a strong passion for working with data and providing good data quality
  • Strong programming skills, preferably Python
  • Experience with SQL databases
  • Quick learner with good analytical thinking skills
  • Interest in learning about trading, weather,  financial markets and working with the data used in these domains
  • Experience with data pipelines for machine learning and machine learning techniques is an asset
  • Excellent team player with high reliability, get-it-done mindset
  • Fluency in English
