Do you want to contribute to an international effort for developing a Climate Digital Twin, while leveraging the world’s leading supercomputing platforms? Join our international group of scientists, supercomputing experts and software developers at CSC! We offer unparalleled growth opportunities, a supportive and inclusive environment, and the chance to work on the future of research and learning.
We are looking for a data engineer to join CSC's Digital Twin Technologies (DTT) group. The selected person will have a key role in Climate Adaptation Digital Twin (Climate DT) project, which is part of the Destination Earth initiative (https://destination-earth.eu/). Climate DT is a novel climate information system that combines climate models and impact models to provide actionable information on climate change. The development of the Climate DT started in September 2022, and currently the focus is on transitioning the system from the initial prototype towards an operational demonstration. Climate DT runs on two EuroHPC supercomputers: LUMI supercomputer which is hosted by CSC in Kajaani (https://www.lumi-supercomputer.eu/) and MareNostrum5 that is located in Barcelona, Spain, both being among the fastest supercomputers in the world.
Key responsibilities
The main responsibility of this role is to design and implement the deployment of the Climate Digital Twin platform, in close collaboration with an international team of model and workflow developers and other experts. In addition, the tasks involve managing and developing the workflow infrastructure of the Digital Twin and supporting the setup of the test infrastructure for developers, in collaboration with a senior technical expert working at CSC. The tasks also entail technical monitoring of the Digital Twin system running on LUMI and MareNostrum5. The selected expert will work with an international group of experts from various fields, including HPC, climate modelling and software development located in different organizations across Europe. In addition to Climate DT, it is possible to contribute to other projects related to Digital Twins, depending on the interests of the applicant.
