The Job in short

As a Data Engineer you will contribute to the data platform for the Backbase Data as a Service (DaaS) Platform from scratch and maintaining it. The Data as a Service platform will enable Backbase and their customers to perform big data analytics on data stored in the Engagement Banking Platform. You will be expected to develop, maintain and test data infrastructure for retrieving data from many different data sources into a Data Lakehouse to enable data scientists en analyst to do their jobs.

The Backbase Data Team is responsible for extracting data stored from the different systems in use in Backbase to unlock new insights and products built on top of the data platform. At Backbase we aim to deliver a turn-key Data as a Service platform built on top of the state Azure technology. The DaaS platform will enable customers from Backbase to run analytical, AI and ML workloads on data stored in the Engagement Banking Platform without affecting the operational state of the systems.

As Data Engineer you will develop and maintain the data pipelines for extracting data from many different sources, such as RDBMS, Change Data Capture and streaming endpoints. Captured data ranges from observability metrics to bank accounts and transactions that need to be processed in a highly secure and compliant manner. You will also guard the data consistency, quality and end to end governance from where data is born to where it is used in dashboards, AI / ML applications and other data consumers.

How about you

  • You have a background in data engineering, preferably in Azure Synapse, Spark or Data Bricks;

  • You are familiar with Data Lakehouse concepts and Delta Lake;

  • You worked with Azure Synapse Analytics and have a good understanding of transforming data for the different consumers such as Power BI, ML and AI workloads;

  • Configure access and security management to the relevant data consumers;

  • Embrace compliancy and governance in all your workflows;

  • Have a good understanding of the different data domains and regulations;

  • You have strong communication skills to work with different stakeholders understanding their data needs and mapping those to the source systems.;

  • Have a strong urge to automate all the things;

  • Experience with the following software/tools;

    • Azure Synapse / Data Bricks / Trident;

    • Power BI;

    • Delta Tables;

    • Spark, Hadoop, Kafka;

    • SQL Database platforms such as MS SQL, AWS Aurora;

    • Python and pySpark.
