HPC Data Center Manager

Job Description:

The HPC Data Center Manager will lead our new Austin High Power Compute Data Center. They will oversee the operations and development of Data Center Technicians, ensuring they provide both Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Repair Services to the Client and their customers onsite (within the agreed Service Level Agreement timeframes) as well as providing on-site support for the provision and maintenance of critical services.  

Responsibilities

  • Facility infrastructure equipment installations within the agreed SLA timeframe and to applicable internal, manufacturing, and industry standards.
  • Information Technology equipment power installations, relocation, and decommission requests within the agreed SLA timeframes and to applicable internal, manufacture, and industry standards.
  • Daily routine checks and cleanup of the data halls and record their findings.
  • Mechanical and Electrical troubleshooting support (chiller, Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC), Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Power Distribution Unit (PDU), Static Transfer Switches (STS), etc.)
  • Ensure all deployments are installed to applicable internal, manufacturer, and industry standards.
  • Ensure that all records are updated following any changes made and that documentation is kept up to date for all applicable processes.
  • Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and used for all tasks, providing safe working practices.
  • Assist the client's Data Center leadership, providing support for Data Center operations.
  • Provide on-site support for the provision and maintenance of critical services.
  • Manage unforeseen circumstances that occur and provide relevant feedback to Client and Core Scientific management where necessary.
  • Mentor and motivate the Data Center Operations team, providing them with regular feedback to ensure they continually improve.
  • Identify areas for training where necessary.
  • Overall responsibility for Configuration Management (CM) MS Work Orders, Preventative Maintenance (PM), Configuration Management (CM), or Repairs within the agreed SLA timeframe, or escalate if issues cannot be resolved promptly.
  • Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team and with co-workers/ teammates and leaders across the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of experience leading data center teams.
  • Proven knowledge of critical facility or Data Center equipment and their components including Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Power Distribution Unit (PDU), Static Transfer Switches (STS), EG, Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC), Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH), etc.
  • A strong understanding of the Data Center environment and the working restrictions applicable to such environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to customers.
  • Ability to effectively present information to multiple levels of stakeholders and team members.
  • Ability to respond effectively and professionally to sensitive issues.
  • Accredited training in the installation of DC Facilities Infrastructure and Building Management System (BMS), preferred.

 

Work Environment  

This job operates in a data center environment. It routinely uses standard data center equipment, such as laptop computers, smartphones, voltmeters, hash board testers, soldering irons, screwdrivers, etc.   

Physical Demands   

This position is a management position; however, it is a physically demanding job when there are deployments, decommissions, or critical work to be done.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work   

This is a full-time position. General hours and days of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, during deployments, decommissions, critical projects, or emergencies, the Data Center Manager is expected to work onsite, including evenings and weekends.
