Data Annotator (Contractor/Internship)

Palo Alto, United States
Part-Time
This is a project based contract role for a total of 1-3 days at an estimated 8 hours per day in our Palo Alto office. There is an opportunity for similar repeat projects in the future.

Our mission is to drive manufacturing efficiencies through technology that empowers teams to build products better, faster, and with less waste. Brands like Bose, Cisco, and SolarEdge use our technology to optimize their manufacturing processes and deliver superior products in less time.

We are looking for a Data Annotator who will be tasked to review images of electronic or mechanical products and annotate if there are  any product defects and/or the types of defects.  Data annotation is a critical part of the machine learning model development process and our Annotator will work closely with the ML team in this crucial step in ML development.  As we plan to periodically review new units and update data labels, there could be further opportunities to work with the ML team depending on the progress in this task.

This could be an ideal role for individuals starting their career (or potentially still within school) to gain exposure to common problems that occur in electrical & hardware products. Individuals pursuing an Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree with an additional interest in start-ups or the ML space, might find this role particularly exciting. Our ML team is incredibly thoughtful & collaborative – a great place to learn & grow if you’re early in your career.

This role reports to the Head of Machine Learning. We estimate around 8 hrs/day, 1-3 days based on the completion of the project.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Learn about typical types of defects in electronic or mechanical products
  • Review images of electronic or mechanical products and annotate if there is any product defect and/or the type of defects
  • Working with our ML team to complete the data annotation within the timeline

We're Looking for Someone Who:

  • Experience in electronics and/or mechanical product design and development
  • Experience in ML model development is a plus
  • Able to follow written work instructions and provide feedback for improvement
  • Local to the Bay Area, and able to be in-person at our Palo Alto office
  • Bonus: Has experience as a technician, as a factory operator, or on an assembly line and is comfortable taking apart electronics.

We’re a growing team that consistently works collaboratively, is supportive of each other, and is highly energized by the opportunity for large impact. We actively work to promote an inclusive environment, valuing passion and the ability to learn. You’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn’t precisely match the job description!

The following is a representative hourly rate range for this position within the Bay Area: $28 - $32/hour.

All candidates must have an unrestricted right to work in the U.S.
