Technical Data Analyst
Technical Data Analysts at RiskSpan work closely with the technical teams and the business stakeholders to deliver simple explanations to complex questions.  Technical skills are a must, as well as creative critical thinking skills to identify the best solution to a problem.  Fixing problems is not enough; Technical Data Analysts drive progress by making it easier to identify warning signs before the problems occur.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Identify, analyze, document, and interpret trends or patterns in complex business processes using data analysis software and techniques.
  • Analyze large data sets to facilitate management reporting. Data analysis activities may include data cleansing and transformation, developing trend reports and forecasts, and benchmarking results against competing data sets.
  • Analyze and document complex business processes and technical problems that result in the development and implementation of applications.
  • Support the development of business requirements and when needed completion of software testing activities associated with the delivery of applications and financial models to clients.
  • Interpret and communicate results of data analysis and model output to clients accurately and effectively.
  • Support analysis related to client business problems using valid statistical methods and tools.
  • Implement best practices in management of data, including data processing, data quality, and lineage.
  • Support regular and ad-hoc data querying and analysis.
Qualifications:
  • Must have hands-on work experience working with mortgage loan or MBS data.
  • 2+ years of experience in Python and data-focused package s, e.g., Pandas, Numpy; interacting with JSON, XML, CSV, TSV, XLSX formatted data.
  • 2+ years of experience with SQL.
  • Familiarity with version control like Git and Linux
  • Strong academic record (3.3 GPA out of 4.0) from a top university with a degree in Finance, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Information Management Systems, Computer Science, or similar.
  • 2+ years of work experience is required with an interest in finance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with data sets in MySQL or other databases.
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Qlik, Tableau, or PowerBI preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to thrive on multiple projects/tasks at one time. Must be detail-oriented and enjoy aspects of research and finance analytics.
  • Experience with using AI tools to work smarter, not harder.
