SAM Labs inspires generations of problem solvers with Coding and STEAM. We empower teachers with innovative curriculum resources, tools, and the mindset to do so. Teachers and students learn with SAM Labs kits and lessons by designing anything from energy efficient lighting grids for ‘smart’ cities to solar-powered habitats for endangered species - all the while meeting curriculum standards. 

SAM Labs is looking for a creative and detail-oriented Curriculum Developer to join our dynamic and passionate team. The Curriculum Developer’s responsibilities will include creating engaging and standards-aligned STEAM/coding curriculum centered around pedagogical best practices, while collaborating with educators and adhering to feasible timeframes.  

Our ideal candidate is passionate about learning and aware of the impact that STEAM education has on educating the whole child while preparing students for the 21st century. Strong project/time management skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as a team are a must. 

This is a fully remote position reporting to the Lead Curriculum Developer and Director of Product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new, standards-aligned STEAM and coding lessons leveraging SAM Labs hardware and coding platforms.
    • Follow pedagogical best practices
    • Adhere to agreed-upon timelines
    • Build out lessons and projects within SAM Labs software
    • The ability to create beautiful visuals and/or animations is a bonus
  • Review, adapt, and enhance existing curricular content to improve engagement and retention
  • Test lessons with users, gather and document feedback, and iteratively refine learning experiences based on real-world use.
  • Provide feedback and guidance on curriculum and product strategy
  • Prepare updates or internal presentations relating to our curriculum offerings

You:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in Education (a Master’s in Curriculum Development is a bonus)
    • Have 5+ years of experience within the classroom 
  • Have extensive experience crafting standards-aligned curriculum used throughout other classrooms within your school or district in the K-8 range
    • Curriculum based on STEAM or coding is preferred 
    • The ability to prove the impact that your curriculum had on student engagement and achievement is a bonus
  • Know how to make content accessible, engaging, and fun
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of CSTA and NGSS standards
  • Are able to articulate current best practices in education and their importance
  • Collaborate with teammates to brainstorm needed resources or modifications to existing curriculum
  • Have a passion for STEAM and/or Coding education 
  • Have an agile approach and are able to thrive in the dynamic environment of start-up
  • Are able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • Have the ability to develop high quality exemplar prototypes to be featured within our curriculum
  • Are comfortable advocating for educators’ perspectives in product development and curricular content
  • Video and graphic editing skills are a bonus

Preferred (but not essential) Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with Google Slides, Spreadsheets, and Docs
  • Experience with graphic design
  • Experience with video editing or animation
  • Experience working in a start-up
