Key responsibilities include developing scorecards and affordability models. Other responsibilities also include monitoring of credit risk MI, identifying good / bad pockets to support credit risk strategy optimisation.
Lending products include 1st and 2nd charge mortgages, secured motor loans, unsecured personal loans and unsecured home improvement loans.

The Credit Risk Manager role reports into the Senior Credit Risk Manager. This role will support the Senior Credit Risk Manager (2nd line of defence) to provide oversight of end-to-end credit risk activities across all Tandem lending products - 1st and 2nd charge mortgages, secured motor loans, home improvement loans and personal loans.
The Portfolio Credit Risk team sits within Credit Risk and ultimately the Risk & Compliance function. The Portfolio Credit Risk team deliverables include - driving credit committee agenda, oversight of credit risk lending policies, driving the 2nd line credit risk assurance agenda and review & challenge of proposals from 1st line ensuring changes to credit risk policy are in line with agreed risk appetite. Role responsibilities include:
- Support the 2nd line Credit Risk control and governance agenda including the implementation of the Credit Risk Management Framework across the Bank.
- Support oversight of credit risk policies – includes policies relating to Responsible Lending, Affordability, Exceptions, Collections, Recoveries, Forbearance and Impairment. Ensure policies are in-line with relevant regulatory requirements and also support oversight to ensure adherence to policy - escalating risks / issues as appropriate.
- Support the Senior Credit Risk Manager to drive Credit Committee agenda – includes identification of risk / issues relating to credit risk and escalating as appropriate.
- Build analytics to develop credit risk appetite limits and work with the Business to seek approval from credit committee and senior committees.
- Own implementation of Bank’s credit risk assurance plan and conduct regular credit risk assurance reviews ensuring observations and recommendations are presented at credit committee.
- Monitor progress against any credit risk related findings from internal/external audit, 2nd line assurance, model validation etc. Work through managing any risks / issues with respect to closure of findings.
- Detailed technical review of the credit performance and credit risk profile of portfolios across the Bank, ensuring credit risk KPIs continue to be in line with agreed credit risk appetite.
- Review watchlist cases on regular basis to ensure appropriate treatment from an impairment provisions and customer lens.
- Review and challenge proposals from the Business (1st line) and provide 2nd line feedback / recommendation/s as part of credit committee governance.
- Oversight and monitoring of the performance of new originations at appropriate level of granularity, including policy exceptions monitoring.
- Lead review and challenge of credit risk models used for credit decisioning – to include provisions, affordability and scorecards – and provide 2nd line assessment of identified limitations and also recommendations as appropriate.
- Work with Data team to ensure delivery of Credit Risk data requirements (e.g. for credit committee MI).
- Work closely with colleagues across 1st line credit risk, Product, Operations, Finance and other areas of Risk to deliver team goals.
- Deputise for Senior Credit Risk Manager on all Portfolio Credit Risk matters
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in maths / stats, finance, business, economics, or other quantitative related field.
- Knowledge: a good knowledge of (consumer) credit risk management framework.
- Knowledge : good understanding of credit risk appetite, quality assurance and quality control framework.
- Knowledge: good understanding of consumer lending products
- Knowledge: good understanding of affordability models, manual underwriting, impairment.
- Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Power Point
- Time management skills: good time management skills, the ability to effectively prioritise tasks, maintain timelines and manage/plan workloads effectively.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal with experience of tailoring communication for different audiences.
- Strong report writing skills including writing papers (e.g. credit assurance reports) for credit committee and board level consumption.
- Good influencing skills with ability to work through any challenges / conflict in a collaborative style.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to drive decision-making.
- Proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving.
It would be great, but not essential if you have:
- Extensive banking experience, with bulk of it being in the credit risk management domain.
- Good understanding of credit risk management principles in consumer lending products, in particular, 2nd charge mortgages and motor finance.
- Previous experience of driving credit committee agenda and performing credit risk assurance.
- Previous experience of working in Fintech environment.
