Summary
Mitek is looking for a dedicated and driven Country Financial Controller (Spain) to take a key role in managing our financial operations and contributing to our company’s growth and success.
In this essential position, you will be responsible for a wide range of critical financial functions, from overseeing daily, weekly, and month-end processes to managing vendor payment applications, cash flow, and balance sheet account analysis. You’ll have the opportunity to develop, refine, and enhance our business processes, driving efficiency and excellence across the organization.
We are seeking someone with a deep understanding of accounting principles and procedures who can confidently apply GAAP across various asset and liability categories. Beyond the numbers, you'll take on special assignments and projects, collaborating closely with our talented team of accountants and supervisors to achieve our financial goals.
As a Country Controller, you will play a vital role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting. Your experience with SOX compliance will be crucial in establishing and monitoring effective controls, managing risks, and ensuring that our financial practices align with both internal policies and external regulatory standards.
What You Will Do (Core Responsibilities):

1. Month-End and Financial Reporting
- Conduct month-end closing activities, including balance sheets and reconciliations.
- Prepare Spanish GAAP financial statements and review them for accuracy.
- Review monthly P&L reports and provide explanations to management for any questions.

2. Auditing and Regulatory Compliance
- Manage and collaborate with local auditors in Spain to ensure timely financial regulatory filings.
- Coordinate various annual accounting and tax filings.

3. Financial Analysis and Budgeting
- Analyse actual financial results against standards or budget; investigate and explain any variances in coordination with the Finance department.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and forecast requirements.

4. Fixed Assets and Key Account Reconciliation
- Reconcile fixed assets and other key accounts to the general ledger, including roll forwards.

5. Grants and Tax Credits
- Prepare and submit claims for R&D grants and tax credits.

6. Relationship Management
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.

7. Team Leadership
- Manage two direct reports.

What You’ll Need (Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- CPA or equivalent Accountancy Qualification.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
- 7+ years of professional experience in General Accounting.
- Fluency in Spanish and English Language Skills (Written and Verbal).
- Direct experience in managing Spanish Legal Entities.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, including preparing and posting journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement analysis and report preparation, variance analysis and compliance with Spanish Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Background in a publicly traded company, with an understanding of the associated reporting and compliance requirements.
- Experience with audit processes, preferably in a public company.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance, including the ability to establish, monitor, and improve internal controls.
- Knowledge related to managing R&D Grants.
- Experience with various payment provider offerings, capabilities, tools and bank or payment reconciliations.
- Experience working with Spanish tax requirements and Transfer Pricing.
- Experience working with enterprise accounting packages.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
What Would be Nice (Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Experience in the SaaS (Software as a Service) industry, with knowledge of its unique financial practices and challenges.
- Experience working within a U.S.-based company, understanding of U.S. financial regulations and business practices.
- Experience with Business Process Management and Automation tools.
- Experience with ERP accounting systems, such as NetSuite.
