Controls Engineer Associate

Position Summary:   This position is responsible for helping to lead our engineering teams in the development and maintenance activities focused around the electrical and software design of the machines and systems we design, build and deliver to our customers. With this role, you will be involved in all lifecycle phases of our equipment ranging from research and development of new product lines, updates/modifications/maintenance of current product lines and obsolescence planning and modernization of legacy equipment in the field. Along with the support of standard product lines, you will also have the opportunity to create electrical and software solutions for highly customized customer applications ranging from food and confectionary to medical device components and everything in between. This position is a dynamic and fast moving role within our company. We need a creative and motivated person who is eager to research and implement new technologies and/or methods in the realms of machine/motion control, Industrial IoT/I4.0 and virtually any other areas that can help us to continue leading the market by providing quality and cutting-edge solutions to our customers. Qualifications

  • Support the electrical/software group with development of PLC and PC based controls platforms and software solutions for automated packaging machinery and systems.
  • Support the development and maintenance of engineering libraries including electrical diagrams, software and general electrical/software documentation.
  • Perform all necessary engineering and machine calculations for proper design of electrical and controls systems.
  • Execute projects and customer orders including electrical schematics, software, bills of material, and engineering change notices.
  • Support technical manuals and training departments by helping to create functional description documents for machine lines and specific machine functions.
  • Provide technical support to customers, customer service, sales engineering and project team engineers and technicians when required.
  • Research new technologies to gain competitive advantage as well as for providing a proactive response to component obsolescence.
  • Support Syntegon continuous improvement activities, engineering processes and production activities when required.
  • Maintain compliance with Syntegon company policies, quality standards and industry safety standards.
  • Contribute and be responsible to the Quality and Environmental awareness throughout the organization.
  • Technical supervision of assigned engineering, assembly, service and installation personnel on an as needed basis.
  • Travel with short notice as required to support Syntegon development projects, machine installations, service and training up to 20% domestically and internationally which requires valid driver's license and passport.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Basic Requirements        

  • Must possess a BS Degree in Engineering: Electrical, Electromechanical, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or Mechanical
  • Must have at least 1+ years of experience working in an engineering position.
  • Must have a minimum of 1+ years of experience programming Rockwell RSLogix5000/Studio5000, FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (ME)
  • Must have at least 1+ years of experience with CAD/CAE software such as AutoCAD or ePlan P8 for the design and/or maintenance of electrical diagrams and design of electrical panels. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of AC/DC circuits for the proper design of machine and electrical control systems with the ability to use all applicable engineering calculations to properly size components used within those systems.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial design standards relevant to automated packaging machinery including UL508A, CE, NFPA and OSHA.
  • Basic knowledge of safety of machinery risk assessment, and related standards.                                                                                      
  • Strong mechanical aptitude or basic knowledge of automated machinery.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in managing multiple tasks simultaneously while accepting changing priorities and deadlines.                
  • Working knowledge of Rockwell controls platforms and the software and hardware design of those platforms. This includes ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Kinetix and PowerFlex series drives. Knowledge of legacy platforms is desirable as well.
  • Working knowledge of delta (parallel axis) robotics and demonstrated ability to integrate single or multiple arm solutions into a packaging machine or system.
  • Working knowledge of 6-axis robots is also highly desirable.
  • Experience designing or working with automated packaging equipment and/or systems. Working knowledge of the following: SAP, Wonderware software and Beckhoff TwinCAT PLC and System Manager Software.
  • Self-motivated having the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner and have a commitment to company values.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, from production to management.
  • Strong customer service focus.

Compensation for roles at Syntegon varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience. At Syntegon compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Total rewards at Syntegon include salary + bonus (if applicable) + benefits.

The expected compensation range for this position is between $65,061.00 – $86,502.00 based on a full-time schedule.
