Controllership Accountant

Full-Time
  • Responsible for maintaining the general ledger structure, recording financial transactions into the company's general ledger and subsidiary ledgers and ensure internal controls and procedures are performed or adhered to in accordance with Deloitte standard policies and procedures.
  • The Controllership Senior Accountants and Accountants are collectively responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
    • Application of standardization of processes across Africa;
    • Performance of month-end reconciliation processes;
    • GL SAP regression testing;
    • Fixed assets;
    • Interfirm;
    • Payroll;
    • Certain charges that can be managed once, centrally (e.g. SSA fees, FX revaluation, Debtors provision, etc); and
    • Direct and indirect allocations.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in Finance / Accounting

Postgraduate qualification in Finance / Accounting preferred but not essential

Minimum Experience

1-2 years in Finance

  • Reviews own work prior to submission to ensure quality and provide guidance to junior team members on quality standards 

 

Core Technical/Professional

General Accounting

  • Posts to and updates the General Ledger
  • Processes journals at month end
  • Processes all journals for central functions (for example bonus provisions, leave pay provision, budget smoothing general journals, accruals, reallocation accounts, standard, adjusting, audit, and closing journal entries etc.)
  • Assists in resolving any discrepancies
  • Perform Monthly 120 Day Debtors Provision and raises provisions for debtors where required
  • Adjusts and releases provisions accordingly in terms of materiality framework
  • Assesses impact of proposed general ledger change
  • Reconciles sub ledger entries
  • Performs period and year-end close activities
  • Perform Foreign Currency Revaluation
  • Revaluation for Foreign Bank Accounts
  • Assist GL Accountants in clearing and matching transaction
  • Complete Balance Sheet recons linked to Controllership areas
  • Implement standardised policies and procedures across Controllership areas and monitor compliance across Africa
  • Provide training and knowledge sharing to teams across Africa for Controllership areas

System: Blackline and SAP FI

  • Blackline management: Support with system administration tasks
  • SAP FI: Perform SAP FI regression testing

Fixed Assets

  • Record fixed assets by creating and supervising a system of procedures, forms, and controls.
  • Recommend any updates to accounting policies affecting fixed assets to management.
  • Perform reconciliation of fixed asset subsidiary ledger balance with summary-level account in the general ledger
  • Perform depreciation calculation for all fixed assets
  • Perform revision and update on the detailed schedule
  • Track Company’s fixed asset spending in relation to its capital budget, as well as management authorizations.
  • Escalating risks with financial impacts timeously.
  • Coordinate between Head of Operations, ATS and GL accountants to ensure accurate recording of assets, asset classes and user assignments

Interfirm

  • Perform monthly reconciliations for Interfirm/Related Parties and reporting (including Loans, Accruals, Receivables and Payables and other related accounts)
  • Submit approved schedules to Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable teams to arrange payment/receipting.
  • Review and ensure Master Data for Related Party and Interfirm Business Partners are correct on ERP system
  • Ensure Withholding tax requirements have been met and certificates have been received.
  • Assist with applications to Reserve Bank involving related parties and Member Firms as and when required and ensure all conditions of approval are met.

Payroll

  • Capturing payroll adjustments from error reports;
  • Reconciling and approval of payroll payment requisitions;
  • Preparing the monthly payroll and related journals;
  • Posting payroll journals to the General Ledger;
  • Preparing Financial Manager reports and send it out to business partners;
  • Perform reconciliation between source system payroll reports and SAP after posting of the payroll journal
  • Follow up with treasury and/or accounts payable to ensure timeous payment of salary and other related payments, such as taxes and other staff deductions and firm contributions

Governance

  • Complies with standardised processes and controls aligned to Deloitte’s risk processes and governance.
  • Attends Controllership team meetings and training
