We have a current opening for a Controller at our Sacramento, CA office.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Construction Controller to join our dynamic finance team in the exciting world of construction. As a Construction Controller, you will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of our organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This is a permanent position that offers excellent growth opportunities and competitive compensation.
- Financial Management: Manage all aspects of financial operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and collections.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis to support decision-making and provide insights to senior management.
- Budgeting: Maintain accurate budget reports and provide analysis on goals.
- Compliance and Taxation: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including use tax returns and multi-state agencies, and work closely with external auditors for annual audits.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance financial processes, systems, and controls to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality work and professional development.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, including analyzing WIP (work-in-progress) and ensuring proper control over project costs. Prepare the WIP statement for senior management.
- Ad hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management, leveraging your financial expertise to drive business growth and success.
- Internal Controls: Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a construction or project-based environment.
- Deep understanding of the construction industry, including AR billing cycles, subcontract billings and compliance
- Knowledge of construction accounting software (e.g., Spectrum, Procore, Vista) is highly preferred.
- Proficient in financial reporting, job costing, and project accounting
- Strong understanding of GAAP, revenue recognition principles, and percentage of completion accounting.
- Proactive in identifying and solving operational issues
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Salary Range:
$130,000-$140,000/year
