About the Team

The Developer Experience team is a new group at OpenAI with a singular focus: making developers successful. Our mission is to empower every developer and startup on the planet to build on the OpenAI platform, providing them with the most delightful developer experience to seamlessly integrate AI into their apps and products.

By partnering closely with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams, we place developers at the heart of our OpenAI API initiatives. Across all product lines, we ensure that these powerful tools are used responsibly. This is a key part of OpenAI’s path towards safely deploying broadly beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Safety is more important to us than unfettered growth.

About the Role

As a Content Engineer on the Developer Experience team, you will use your exceptional writing skills to convey complex technical concepts with clarity and nuance. Writing is your superpower, but your curiosity and willingness to explore other forms of communication—like filmmaking, podcasting, and interactive design—will broaden your impact. Your work will play a pivotal role in shaping the way developers interact with and understand our technologies.

What you’ll do:

• Lead the development of information architecture for technical content, driving content improvement and creation with precision and a narrative flair.

• Partner with product marketing, engineering, and design teams to ensure our technologies are communicated cohesively, moving beyond traditional documentation to create a unified developer experience.

• Produce in-depth documentation, articles, and in-product guides that not only inform but inspire, using storytelling to make complex concepts accessible and engaging.

• Explore and integrate various forms of content beyond writing, such as video, podcasts, and interactive experiences, to enhance the developer learning journey.

• Collaborate on innovative, multimodal educational content with engineering and design teams, setting new standards for developer education.

• Aim to create the best possible initial learning experience for developers using our API, drawing inspiration from a broad range of industries to embody the OpenAI brand uniquely.

We’re looking for a blend of:

• Proven ability to demystify complex topics through exceptional writing, evidenced by a strong portfolio.

• Comfort and curiosity with technical details, eager to explore new technologies, including hands-on API experience.

• Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams to break new ground in tech communication.

• A passion for leveraging technology to create content that's dynamic, engaging, and adaptable, always seeking innovative ways to educate and engage.

• A solid understanding of the developer journey, committed to enhancing it through clear, insightful, and motivational content.
