Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced consultant to support the team with public record research and management of subcontractors – with a focus on Russia and the CIS – to scope and deliver business intelligence and due diligence projects in this region.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Understand and utilise a variety of open-source and proprietary public record databases to identify relevant information and conduct comprehensive research in support of business intelligence, investigations, litigation support and due diligence projects in Russia and the CIS.
- Develop research scopes for subcontractors and instruct them on source enquiries.
- Produce concise and focused write-ups of subcontractor submissions.
- Produce research findings in reports that are accurate, well-written and convey a narrative in English and suggest additional avenues of research.
- Scope and manage enquiries with human sources to address clients' questions and triangulate the significance of the information against public record research.
- Ensure the delivery of projects on budget, scope and deadline.
- Participate and lead in scoping engagements, designing research strategies on a case-by-case basis for multi-jurisdictional assignments.
- Support the team on business development initiatives such as attending conferences, client meetings and briefings.
Requirements
Essential
- A robust understanding of Russian and CIS political and commercial environments
- At least three years of work in investigative consulting, or news and business journalism, investigative outfit in an NGO or of academic research into Russian domestic politics and business is a must
- Understanding of key issues relevant to doing business in the region (power-wealth interplay, sanctions, domestic politics, corruption)
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to write concisely and authoritatively under deadlines, while interacting with colleagues and clients in challenging situations.
- Ability to understand, summarise and present large amounts of information.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant discipline.
- Excellent verbal and written English and Russian.
- Ability to use basic Microsoft Office programs: Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
Preferred
- Fluency in another European language, both written and oral.
- Experience of researching due diligence and business intelligence projects and presenting findings to clients
