Pay Range: $24.67/hr. - $30.83/hr.

A Construction Utility Inspector I job is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation & Public Works Department, Right-of-Way Management Division Franchise Utilities Group. The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising and participating in inspection of construction projects involving utility installation, material testing, concrete and asphalt paving restoration for conformance with City standards and policies. The ideal candidate should be responsible, dependable, and extremely detail oriented individual who is willing to learn.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the interpretation of plans involving Franchise Utility Construction.
  • Paving restoration experience, HMAC and Concrete.
  • Experience with Directional Drilling (HDD).
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Accela Experience, CRM-Customer Relationship Management System

The Construction Utility Inspector I job responsibilities include:

  • Inspects product installation and final restoration in a variety of Utility projects for compliance with City standards and policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships; acting as a liaison between contractors, utilities, and the general public with respect to various construction projects.
  • Previews plans and traffic control for assigned projects prior to inspection.
  • Prepare daily inspection route list.
  • All utility inspections are entered into Accela and non-inspection activities into CRM.
  • Observes work during progress and upon completion finals the project.
  • Coordinates construction inspection activities with other city departments.
  • Performs routine and final inspections on utility construction projects.

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

Physical Demand

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
