Computer Scientist

We have an opening for a Computer Scientist in the field of high-performance graph analytic techniques. In this role, you will provide subject matter expertise and technical leadership to a wide range of national security problems pertaining to electric power grid and critical infrastructure security. You will also contribute to the development of fundamental and applied research programs in massive scale graph analysis and linear algebra. Travel may be required to work with collaborators at various sites within the United States. This position is in the Computing Directorate within the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) Division.

You will

  • Conduct research and develop\innovative solutions to highly complex problems or ideas, transforming them into useable algorithms or software modules. Provide solutions that require in-depth analysis of multiple factors and the creative use of established methods.
  • Provide highly advanced technical leadership; maintain and ensure excellence in execution of projects and ensure quality standards for deliverables; manage multiple parallel tasks and priorities of customers and stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Document extensive research results and development progress via technical reports, publishing papers in peer-reviewed media and presenting papers within the DOE community.
  • Develop new program growth opportunities by interactions with current and potential sponsors and the development of research and grant proposals.
  • Direct a portfolio of complex technical tasks and projects; establish a broad research/project vision and strategy and influence technical direction for Laboratory, self and/or others.
  • Represent the Laboratory as the primary technical contact for large projects and serve on external scientific or technical committees.
  • Support the Laboratory in attracting and retaining projects, programs, funding, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge.
  • Expert knowledge in scalable graph algorithms research, including associated data modeling and implementation in high performance computing environments.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated ability to champion, apply, lead, and develop cutting edge principles, theories, concepts, and technologies.
  • Expert knowledge and experience conducting high quality, independent research and developing implementations to evaluate results.
  • Extensive experience in software development and large-scale computation.
  • Extensive experience interacting with a multi-disciplinary research team, authoring technical and scientific reports and papers, and delivering scientific presentations.
  • Extensive experience in the identification of highly complex problems and providing solutions in a creative and timely manner.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to present, explain, and advise senior management and/or external sponsors.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with defense and/or non-proliferation applications.
