SRC, Inc. is currently seeking a computational scientist based out of our Syracuse, NY, Arlington, VA, or Herndon, VA office (remote telework options available). The selected candidate will perform technical in our Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Services team in the Environmental Health Analysis business area. Position will be responsible for development and integration of chemical property estimation, hazard prediction modeling and simulation, and cheminformatic software to characterize existing and emerging threats. Projects are focused on development of chemical property estimation, hazard prediction modeling and simulation, and cheminformatic software to characterize existing and emerging threats.
This candidate will work with a dynamic and successful team to perform CBRN hazard/risk characterizations, toxicological analyses, data analysis technical reports, and help manage development of innovative scientific decision support software tools and models for our customers. This candidate will support various programs for the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control, and related agencies. What You’ll Do
- Modeling and Scientific duties
- Develop and design chemical property estimation algorithms using Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships (QSARs) to elucidate hazard and risk profiles
- Utilize Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques
- Update and enhance knowledge management applications for CBRN purposes
- Review and curate datasets for incorporation into models and tools
- Apply data science practices in calculation and evaluation of statistical measures
- Software
- Build and expand CBRN databases
- Create modeling and simulation tools and web applications
- Perform software development and integration within an agile development process
- Support software lifecycle activities to include requirements development, software design, development, test, and documentation
- Participate in software design and code reviews to ensure delivery of quality products and enhance skill sets

What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of related experience or master’s degree with 3 years or PhD degree with 0 years of experience
- Preferred degrees in chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, toxicology or related discipline
- Applicable training, experience, or dual degree in software development, computer engineering, computer science or related discipline
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills required
- Monitor, manage and report status of technical work and project progress
- Ability to work independently and on multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Ability to work in a team of software engineers to efficiently implement, package and deploy a software application
Ways to Stand Out
- Familiarity with ISO compliant software development strategies
- Software development experience with C/C++, Java, Javascript, and OOD
- Knowledge of C#/Python/MySQL/Database and Matlab a plus
- Experience using R for model development
- Experience developing AI/ML models for scientific applications
- Experience with common deep learning frameworks (e.g., Tensorflow, PyTorch).
- Demonstrated understanding of agile development process
- Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following disciplines is a plus:
- Chemical property estimation techniques
- Quantitative Structure Property Relationships (QSPRs)

Total compensation for this role is market competitive. The anticipated salary range for this position based out of Syracuse, NY is estimated at $73,000 to $84,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, and abilities, geographic location as well as other business and organizational needs.
