ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Compliance Manager in the Corporate Counsel's Office of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month. 

The ACLU leverages the resources of outside contractors to supplement the talents of its own staff and maximize its impact. To protect its tax-exempt status and its fundraising, advocacy, and litigation capabilities, the ACLU must maintain rigorous compliance with a myriad of federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The Office of Corporate Counsel provides the primary support for both of those efforts. We draft and negotiate contracts that vastly expand the organization’s reach and support the functions of every department. We create compliance programs, train staff, and provide compliance advice, all with the goal of maintaining the highest standards of professional and business conduct.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

Reporting to the Co-Chief Corporate Counsel for Regulatory Compliance, the Compliance Manager will be responsible for administering, organizing, and implementing political law reporting compliance protocols and processes.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

  • Collect and track data to comply with lobbying, campaign finance, and other regulatory requirements on an ongoing basis across a variety of federal, state, and local jurisdictions
  • Prepare, file, and maintain records of registrations, reports, and other disclosure forms, including all federal, state, and local lobbying and campaign finance reports
  • Coordinate reporting with National Political Advocacy Department, with ballot committees, and with other coalition partners as needed on political law reporting
  • Independently respond to questions from ACLU staff on reporting requirements and provide fast guidance to staff, with minimal oversight from the Co-Chief Corporate Counsel, and serve as a resource for inquiries about political law report filing status and requirements for the Office of Corporate Counsel team and other departments
  • Independently assess when to escalate reporting questions or difficulties to outside counsel and work with outside counsel effectively
  • Coordinate and work closely with ACLU Finance staff on accounts used for political activities, on collecting finance figures and data for reports, and collaborate on tracking and other data analysis needs for Finance team
  • Maintain and update political law reporting calendars and all other tracking and recordkeeping systems diligently
  • Draft grant agreements, correspondence, and consultant agreements for political law programs
  • Collaborate with Co-Chief Corporate Counsel on political law training processes and program development
  • Support attorneys and staff in the Office of Corporate Counsel with other departmental matters as needed
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated paralegal or relevant administrative work experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment balancing multiple priorities
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in organizational matters
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Preferred – experience with political law filings or other complex regulatory filings

COMPENSATION

The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with our compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work location. The annual salary for this position is $92,431 (Level I), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY.  Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
