The primary purpose of this role is to define and develop the activities that result in an OE being able to demonstrate that its products comply with legislation relating to radio frequency emission and reception in every market into which it sells cars.
This is achieved by establishing and adhering to the processes necessary to manage the activities, working with regulations to determine the relevant technical standards for each market and supporting the engineering team in gaining, maintaining and storing the associated documents and certificates of compliance.
On a case by case basis the Radio Frequency Compliance Engineer may also be enrolled to support the customer in dealing with engineering related non-Radio Frequency projects.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Establishing which elements of the global radio frequency legislation environment are relevant to the customer and its products.
- Communicating the applicable legislative considerations to the engineering team on their products, and what evidence of compliance is necessary.
- Developing and adhering to the processes necessary for managing Radio Frequency compliance activities within the customers business.
- Contributing to the resolution of any concerns within the wider business that relate to the subject of radio frequency compliance.
- Establishing and monitoring the budget necessary to support the team activities and the costs of achieving and maintaining compliance.
- Either acting alone or as part of a team, participate in specifically allocated roles relating to the solution of legislation-related engineering problems.
Required Skills
- A proven history of activity within the motor industry at a similar level or within a similar technical field.
- Demonstrable experience dealing with management of activities related to regulatory compliance in an automotive or engineering environment, particularly RF or EMC requirements.
- Self-motivated to challenge existing obstacles and develop new approaches to providing solutions to problems.
- Ability to interface with personnel within all levels of the business in order to achieve a required outcome.
- Data rational – able to analyse a problem and provide a justified and quantified set of recommendations.
- Flexible approach to undertake work requiring the acquisition of specific knowledge and skills outside of the day to day activity, in order to deliver particular projects successfully.
- Project management experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of automotive engineering, electrical architectures and RF relevant systems.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of RF transmission theory and the parameters specific to RF compliance.
- Ability to access and interpret the RF compliance standards for the global markets.
- Able to contribute to technical discussions internally or within industry expert groups on matter pertaining to RF compliance.
- A general knowledge of electrical and mechanical automotive engineering principles and the ability to apply these to problem solving and project management activities.
- A degree in an Electronic, Mechatronics or Radio related discipline is desirable.
- An accredited engineering status (IEng, CEng) is desirable but not compulsory.
