Hello Neighbor is seeking creative, detail-oriented Community Events Coordinator to plan and manage events serving our community of refugees, immigrants, migrants, and their supporters. This is an exciting opportunity to create unforgettable experiences of connection between Pittsburgh locals and our new neighbors. The role will be a critical part of Hello Neighbor’s mission to create a more welcoming Pittsburgh and US.
The role sits in the Education and Community Empowerment Department and will work closely with programs serving youth and adults. The Community Events Coordinator will meet and connect directly with participants from diverse backgrounds, religions, and languages.
Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. We’ve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, community empowerment and health and stabilization programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country.
This is an in-house, regular, full-time, non-exempt, position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. We are currently on a hybrid work schedule of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday; in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and work-from-home on Mondays and Fridays.
Note: The Community Events Coordinator’s schedule will include evenings and weekends as needed for events.
Reports To: Education and Community Empowerment Department Supervisor
Key Responsibilities
- Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates the planning and coordination of community events and trainings in alignment with department goals and Hello Neighbor’s mission and values
- Coordinates all details community event details, including venue, transportation, food, supplies, and activities
- Facilitates engaging workshops to train and educate participants.
- Collaborates with programmatic staff to develop event concepts and overall plans
- Works within budget and follows procedures for vendor payment
- Collects RSVPs and communicates event details such as transportation, accessibility and dietary needs, utilizing translation as needed
- Responsible for managing event promotion in collaboration with Marketing team
- Handles communication with relevant stakeholders including vendors, teammates, and participants and volunteers
- Creates detailed Run-of-Show documents, conveying critical event details to teammates, and facilitates pre-and post-event meetings
- Troubleshoots issues and coordinates last-minute needs onsite during majority of planned events
- Participates in regular supervision meetings and relevant staff meetings
- Adheres to Hello Neighbor’s confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree and two or more years of related professional experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the key responsibilities of the role
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, characterized by compassionate, courteous, cordial, and professional interactions with diverse colleagues, program members, and the community
- Possesses cultural competencies, encompassing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors relevant to the communities served
- Able to cultivate excellent relationships with clients, staff, and partners
- Exhibits adept task management, including priority setting, meeting deadlines, and efficient time scheduling for multiple responsibilities
- Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software
- Flexibility and ability to work nights and weekends as necessary
- Effective collaboration with others through cooperative efforts
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
- Alignment with and support of Hello Neighbor’s core values
- Bilingual or multilingual in priority language preferred (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Rohingya)

Additional Details
- This is a limited term role, through July 1, 2025.
- The position is an full-time, non-exempt, in-house position at our Pittsburgh office in the Larimer neighborhood
- Clearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24); Mandatory Reporter and/or PSEA training may also be required depending on job requirements
- We require a COVID-19 vaccination for full-time employees
- Valid driver’s license personal vehicle, and proof of insurance are required, MVR records will be required

- The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
- Compensation: $19 - $21/per hour, payable bi-weekly
