SALARY: $53,00-$63,000

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Communications Director, the Communications Manager will support the day-to-day execution of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri’s (PPSLRSWMO) external and internal communications work. As a member of the Marketing and Communications team, the Communications Manager will support the department’s earned media and digital media footprints in partnership with the brand and marketing team and policy and advocacy team. The individual will also work closely with all PPSLRSWMO departments to oversee internal communications within the organization. This position may fulfill the cell phone reimbursement policy requirements.
Communications Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
● Support comprehensive communications plan development that reflects organizing opportunities and earned media narratives and supports policy and operational goals
● Serve as project manager for in-person and virtual media events Identify media opportunities and support spokespeople with briefings, messaging, and staffing
● Identify media opportunities and support spokespeople with briefings, messaging, and staffing
● Draft media materials including press releases, advisories, background documents, and memos for reporter engagement and pitches
● Media monitoring
● Work closely with Marketing and Communications team members to align on department goals, messaging, and peaks
● Develop an ethical and storytelling program that includes storyteller events, meetings, and spokesperson development
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
● In close collaboration with key organization stakeholders, develop internal communications strategies including goals and plans for execution
● Create internal communications including, but not limited to, staff newsletters, all-staff emails, and other written media
● Coordinate and manage internal events and peaks calendar and create communications related to its contents
● Coordinate organization’s communication needs and help develop plans that meet the organization’s goals for efficiency, transparency, and cross-team collaboration
● Seek regular feedback on communication strategies from department heads to ensure the most effective tactics are being used
● Stay up to date on the organization’s operations and identify opportunities to proactively communicate them
QUALIFICATIONS
● Associate’s degree with four or more years’ experience or Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience in communications, journalism or related field.
● Ability to conceive, draft, and edit materials quickly, including the ability to understand and communicate complex issues to multiple audiences
● Excellent written and verbal skills
● Experience working across multiple departments, managing cross-departmental collaboration
● Experience working with media, existing relationships with local or national media a plus
● Possess organizational and project management skills. Must be able to multitask and meet deadlines
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
● Other duties as assigned
● Some travel and weeknight and weekend work are expected
● Periodic travel to other affiliate locations may be required
