So, What’s the mission?
Reporting to the Managing Director of Civils and Drainage (C&D), the Commercial Manager will be responsible for driving business growth and profitability by leading and developing the C&D internal sales, customer service, and order fulfilment teams. Directly managing 4 team members and 40+ indirectly you must offer flexibility to regularly visit our sales offices in Landscape House (Elland) and Mells (Somerset).

With a strong focus on delivering exceptional customer experience, this role requires a results-oriented and commercially driven approach, with a deep understanding of quote and order systems, to improve processes, drive efficiency, and improve customer response times.

The Commercial Manager is also responsible for managing price and margin controls, ensuring that sales targets are met while maintaining profitability, and actively contributing to the senior leadership team to shape the company’s future growth and success.

You will develop and manage key customer relationships, maintaining and growing relationships with critical customers to ensure long-term business partnerships and revenue growth.

What are the mission-critical skills?

Proven leadership and team management skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team, including sales, customer service, and order fulfilment teams.

Strong commercial acumen: Deep understanding of business operations, pricing strategies, and margin optimisation, essential for managing commercial activities effectively.

  • Industry-specific knowledge: Experience and understanding of the drainage and/or water management sectors within the construction industry, including key trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Excellent customer relationship skills: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, particularly at a senior level, to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • A proven results-driven approach with the ability to show consistent achievement of business targets and driving team performance to meet and exceed set goals.
  • You will offer a analytical mindset with the capability of analysing sales data and market trends to inform strategic decisions and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Skilled in addressing challenges and obstacles in sales, customer service, and operations promptly and effectively.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills: Ability to clearly communicate, persuade, and negotiate with internal teams and external partners.
  • Skills in identifying inefficiencies and implementing effective solutions to enhance business processes and customer response times.
  • Experience with CRM and order management systems alongside a proficiency in using modern CRM platforms, AI and other technologies.
