The Role:

Moonbug is looking to grow its distribution capability by bringing in a sales executive who
will have the ability to leverage the company’s IP across all platforms, whether digital or
linear.

Reporting to the Head of APAC Commercial, the role would form part of a regional team and their core responsibility will be to maximise revenues through leveraging intellectual property across APAC (and potentially other regions from time to time). 

This individual will handle sales to linear & digital platforms, including distribution to free-to-air, cable, and satellite channels and platforms as well as subscription (SVOD), transactional (EST/TVOD), and ad-funded (AVOD) digital businesses. They will distribute Moonbug’s existing content as well as initiate, develop and close creative, programming, co-production, format, and content deals that drive brand awareness and revenues from local and regional linear and digital players. They will work with potential partners to identify ways to drive a compelling consumer experience that surpasses competitors and also provides optimal revenue opportunities across all screens.

To be regarded as successful in this role, in the first 18 months this person will have: 

  • Grown the Korea market in terms of revenue and profitability (currently $3m)
  • Helped to drive traction in other Asian markets i.e. Japan 
  • Generated greater brand awareness in the region

Responsibilities:

The Commercial Director will be involved primarily in distribution (local platform sales) and will collaborate on licensing and merchandising deals with UK and Singapore based colleagues (consumer products), and brand partnerships (working closely with their Singapore colleagues). The role is based in Korea, for exceptional candidates providing the individual has experience in the Korean market.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Initiate, negotiate, and close distribution deals for rights to original, digital, children’s
    IP with Cable, Satellite, Internet and Mobile platforms as well as broadcasters
    throughout a variety of business models, including PPV, VOD, SVOD, AVOD and
    Electronic Sell-Through.
  • Develop and expand Moonbug’s relationships with the creative community
    in order to identify co-development and co-production opportunities with
    international producers, broadcasters, and platforms whether they are one-off
    opportunities or long-term strategic investments.
  • Push the expansion of the digital footprint beyond YouTube, from
    stand-alone OTT services to a cross-platform footprint, including web, mobile,
    tablets, applications, game consoles and connected TV, as a key driver for a long-
    term customer strategy.
  • Identify new opportunities for sales as a result of new entrants, changing technology
    and/or delivery systems, and develop sales strategies targeted specifically to
    address these specialised needs.
  • Serve to establish and enhance relationships with international broadcasters,
    producers, telco’s, advertisers, and digital partners, with the intention of maximising
    potential sales of the company’s product.
  • Work with the Head of APAC to set targets, strategy, pricing, and windows;
    review promotions/bundles, title selections, and marketing efforts; and track
    performance.
  • Conceive, develop and implement product-packaging strategies that include
    everything from individual programme sales, to branded blocks, to linear channels,
    all with an eye to maximising revenue opportunities.
  • In appropriate markets, identify, manage and lead agents that have the best
    opportunity to represent the IP.
  • Coordinate pricing and packaging strategies with other sales executives, finance, and
    other executives within Moonbug EMEA, CEE, Americas & APAC.
  • Work closely with other senior management in other areas of the company to
    analyse and anticipate the financial and strategic ramifications of major deals and
    transactions.
  • Achieve the annual and monthly sales forecasts in conjunction with the Head of
    APAC, including monthly and quarterly variance analysis.
  • Ensure the division has an overall knowledge of commercial terms paid in APAC
    markets across a wide range of product types and ensure that Moonbug is achieving
    the best commercial terms for its properties.
  • Develop strong relationships with key executives and administrators internally as
    well as others related to the company’s interests and operations on an international
    basis.
  • Monitor the marketplace for changes that affect sales activities, both directly and
    indirectly.
  • Inform customers of upcoming Moonbug events, product programs and services.
  • Follow up with clients requests and co-ordinate solutions to contract/distribution
    issues where required.
  • Follow up with clients to maximise product placement, ratings and promotional
    opportunities.
  • Utilise research effectively and provide creative and marketing input, as required, in
    order to establish the best possible sales strategies.
  • Remain abreast of trends in programming across national boundaries.
  • Attend pertinent industry functions and markets to ensure the company’s interests
    and objectives are properly represented.
  • Follow market developments and use this depth of knowledge in commercial projects.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates the ability to drive revenue through creative deals.
  • Working knowledge of the television and digital businesses in territories.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to lead and motivate sales agents.
  • A strategic, mature and independent thinker, with sound judgement, making Moonbug a leader in the market.

  • Demonstrable experience in media and entertainment with a deep understanding of the digital media landscape
  • Local Korea (Asia) expertise and contacts - content, brand, IP; the market and economy; media industry and consumers.
  • Strong network in the industry – able to raise Moonbug’s brand and profile.
  • Full understanding of the sales environment and successful practices.
  • Ability to speak Korean to a high-level, business standard
  • Experience working in a regional role in an intense, fast paced multinational organisation and possess the interpersonal and organisational sensitivity to navigate a matrix structure.
  • Experience of content sales in Kids, Young Adult content businesses
  • Excellent commercial understanding of business.
  • Growth mindset and experience of growing revenues in Asia/Korea.
  • Influential – able to recognise opportunities to better position and strengthen the brand and advocate amongst people with more experience.
  • Comfortable presenting to large audiences.
  • Effective planning and organisation skills, ability to multi-task.
