The Common Market, a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to building a sustainable and equitable food system, is looking for an Executive Director for their Southeast Food Hub. In this pivotal role, the Co-Executive Director will be responsible for leading the Southeast operations, overseeing all aspects of the food hub, from procurement and distribution to customer engagement and community outreach. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice, a deep understanding of local food systems, and proven leadership experience in nonprofit management.
As the Co-Executive Director, you will work to connect local farmers with institutional buyers, enhancing community access to fresh, healthy food while supporting local economies. This is a significant opportunity to influence food equity and sustainability in the Southeast region.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Southeast Food Hub, ensuring the effective procurement and distribution of local food products
- Develop and implement strategies to increase sales and expand the customer base, focusing on partnerships with schools, hospitals, and other institutions
- Strengthen relationships with local farmers and producers to ensure a reliable and diverse supply of food
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team, creating an inclusive workplace culture and promoting teamwork and professional growth
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and regulations while maintaining high-quality standards for all products
- Oversee the financial aspects of the hub, including budgeting, fundraising, and grant applications to support ongoing operations and initiatives
- Represent The Common Market at key events, conferences, and meetings to advocate for local food systems and community health
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, agriculture, business, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- At least 7 years of experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit or food-related organization
- Deep knowledge of food systems, sustainable agriculture, and food justice issues
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships between diverse stakeholders
- Track record of successful team leadership and development
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing conditions.
