About the Role
As Chief of Staff to the VP of Engineering, Observability, you will be a key strategic and operational leader, ensuring the engineering organization operates efficiently and is aligned to business goals. This highly influential role involves strategic planning, business operations, program execution, internal communications, and cross-functional collaboration. You will drive the rhythm of the engineering business, ensure organizational alignment, and optimize execution across teams.
Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the VP of Engineering, providing insights, feedback, and strategic support.
Drive cross-functional initiatives that improve execution across the Observability Engineering organization, ensuring timely delivery of key engineering and product commitments.
Manage and optimize operational processes, including goal-setting, performance tracking, and leadership team effectiveness. Drive continuous improvement.
Prepare and facilitate effective meetings, including engineering leadership syncs, operational reviews, technical deep dives, and all-hands sessions.
Act as a bridge across teams, ensuring engineering, product, and business functions are aligned in strategy and execution.
Track and monitor the progress of key technical and organizational initiatives, ensuring accountability and execution. Identify inefficiencies and propose improvement initiatives.
Work closely with Finance, HR, Communications, Talent Acquisition, and Business Operations partners to ensure operational clarity and efficiency.
Provide organizational insights to improve collaboration and decision-making across engineering teams.
Lead and contribute to special projects that enhance engineering team effectiveness and culture.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in engineering operations, technical program management, business operations, or a similar leadership role.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior engineering, product, and business leaders.
Proven track record of leading strategic and operational cross-functional initiatives in a technical organization.
Experience driving engineering team efficiency and process improvements in a large, distributed organization.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
Ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-moving environments with competing priorities.
Passion for fostering a high-performance engineering culture and enabling teams to scale.

Base Pay Range
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area
Base Pay Range: $212,400.00 - 292,050.00 per year
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts
Base Pay Range: $191,160.00 - 262,845.00 per year
All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.
Base Pay Range: $172,000.00 - 236,500.00 per year
Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
