The role

We have an exciting opportunity for the role of Chief Engineer - Data Platforms. Reporting to our GM of Platform Engineering, the purpose of this role is to lead our vibrant and fast-growing data practice, and to provide ClearPoint teams and clients with modern data architectures, engineering, data science and analytics solutions. Please note, this is an Auckland-based permanent role.

The experience we’re looking for:

You might currently be a Practice Lead, Senior Consultant or Principal Engineer in the data space looking for your next step - whatever your situation, if you’re a senior level Data star, and you also have line management experience - then let's talk!  

What you'll be doing:

- Hands-on architecture, design and engineering of modern data platforms and architectures
- Consulting, thought leadership, technical and domain expertise to effectively support client projects and internal ClearPoint teams
- Comfortable with making formal and informal presentations to technical & non-technical staff and customers
- Strong experience and certification in modern data platforms, ideally Snowflake and Informatica, or platforms like Data Bricks and Azure
- Strong experience with common data processing tools such as HDFS, Spark, Kafka, GCP Big Query, S3, Airflow, AWS Glue or other latest data tools
- Experience or exposure to ETL/ELT packages such as DBT, SSIS, Pentaho, Informatica, SAS, or WhereScape RED
- Understanding of current virtualisation and containerisation tech such as AWS EC2, Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with a programming language such as Java, Python, Go or Typescript
- Strong expertise with relational databases and SQL queries
- Strong expertise with data modelling fundamentals and diagramming techniques
- Understanding of data structures common to data processing such as Star and Snowflake patterns
- Security engineering practices and tools especially as relates to data security
- Awareness of common data presentation tools and tech such as PowerBI, Tableau
- Understanding of the Product Owner role - and perhaps have worked as a PO in the past
