With more than 600 health centers across the country, Planned Parenthood organizations serve all patients with care and compassion, with respect, and without judgment, striving to create equitable access to health care. Through health centers, programs in schools and communities, and online resources, Planned Parenthood is a trusted source of reliable education and information that allows people to make informed health decisions.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the President and CEO and a member of senior management, the new Chief Development Officer will provide leadership for a comprehensive resource development program.
Two years ago, in 2012, PPLM completed a successful five year $30,000,000 comprehensive campaign, the largest comprehensive campaign in PPLM’s history. There were six and seven figure gifts and an expansion of the donor base. The campaign benefited from increased giving levels from long-time major donors and the addition of a number of new major donors.
Working closely with volunteer and staff leadership, the CDO will be expected to guide and manage the expansion of a complex comprehensive program, initially raising between $3 million and $4 million per year, then preparing for expanded initiatives in upcoming years, and possibly a future campaign.
Major donors are an important part of PPLM’s support mix; deepening their engagement is an organizational priority. A commitment to best practices and the addition of innovative initiatives to established successful programs are expected to be important aspects of enhancing the current program. Candidates should also be aware of PPLM’s effective networking, political and media savvy– organizational strengths which it puts to use in aspects of its fundraising program and which also have potential value in expanding the philanthropic base to more completely cover the entire state of Massachusetts.
The CDO will design and implement a multi-year development strategy that aligns with and supports PPLM’s strategic plan and oversee the expansion of the development department, expected to grow to an eight-member team (the CDO included in that number). The CDO will maintain a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors and oversee the major gift program. While taking advantage of PPLM’s well-developed, signature programs, the CDO will also initiate new programs and develop departmental strengths.
