About the role
Hourly rate: $30 - $36 + super
OTTWA is looking for an experienced and positive person to join our small, committed team in North Dandalup.
To achieve success in the role you will need to demonstrate your experience in:
- Undertaking day-to-day duties for care of horses including grooming, feeding and exercising both in hand and ridden
- Your attention to detail in maintaining high levels of horse care and training records
- Ensuring the general wellbeing of horses is high, including identifying where horses may be injured or require medical attention and escalating such concerns as and when they arise as directed by your manager
- Assisting with the identification of horses, and documentation of intake and out-take procedures, for horses in the Retraining and Rehoming program
- Assisting in all aspects of Off the track estate programs where required
About You
- Minimum two years experience working with horses in a similar role (preference with thoroughbred or standardbred horses)
- Demonstrated riding ability, preference with thoroughbred or standardbred horses, both preferred.
- Experience in assessing a horse’s level of handling and temperament.
- Knowledge of general horse care and husbandry
- Ability to work individually or unsupervised and manage time autonomously and as a proactive team member
- Self-motivation and initiative
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks.
- Prepared to work outside of normal business days/hours, including at short notice if required.
- Current ‘C’ class driver’s license
- Be physically fit and able to cope with the physical demands of the role
- Attention to detail and a high standard of care
- Proficiency with farm machinery and an understanding of maintenance standards required for a horse property - preferred.
- An understanding of WA thoroughbred or harness racing industry- beneficial.
