What you'll do
The RRC Case Manager is responsible for the planning and management of reentry/transition plans for residents referred from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP), United States Probation (USPO), and United States Pre-Trial Services (USPT). Specifically, the RRC Case Manager assists residents with attaining employment, securing housing, accessing treatment, and developing independent living skills in addition to other needs important to a successful community transition. Case managers utilize practices that are evidenced-based and client-centered including a research-validated assessment tool and cognitive skill building and motivation strategies designed to reduce recidivism. Within the Residential Reentry Center, the RRC Case Manager is considered a “key staff” and as such is integral to the overall effectiveness of program operations. Primary/essential duties and responsibilities are but not limited to:

 

  • After becoming certified, performs comprehensive risk-needs-responsivity assessment (LS/CMI) and PREA Risk Assessment for residents on caseload.
  • Orients residents to program rules and expectations.
  • Uses assessment results to identify static and dynamic risk factors.
  • Uses assessment results to develop Individual Program Plans (IPPs) utilizing SMART goal techniques.
  • Aligns IPP interventions, goals and timeframes to address top criminogenic needs based off the results of the LS/CMI risk-needs assessment.
  • Provides regular, accurate, and detailed case notes documenting resident performance during all phases of their program.
  • Make mental health, chemical dependency, housing, and other referrals as need is identified through the LS/CMI assessment and 1:1 session.
  • Completes field work tasks including initial home investigations and monthly home checks for all home confinement residents.
  • May be required to conduct on site employment verification checks when a resident is offered employment and may be required to conduct monthly follow up with each employer.
  • Facilitates and instructs individual and group cognitive-behavioral skill building sessions/classes following designated training or program curriculum.  Coordinates and facilitates meetings with resident family members.
  • Attends program staff meetings, clinical staff meetings and facility events as needed.
  • Is present for and participates in FBOP program audits and audit preparation.
  • Engages in clear, consistent, and professional communication with all residents, program staff, FBOP and US Probation staff, and community members.
  • Maintains cell phone and answers calls/emails outside of normal work hours and on weekends.
  • Attends bi-weekly Program Review Team meetings with FBOP and USPO.
  • Participates in work groups and committees organized by the Assistant Director, Director and other external agencies as appropriate.
  • Conducts CDC investigations and discipline hearings for resident violations and incident reports which includes visits to the Federal Detention Center or local jails.
  • Completes 40 hours of required BOP training, in addition to PHS training to include motivational interviewing, assessment certifications, mental health, trauma and other professional development training.
  • Practice and maintain appropriate ethical and professional boundaries.
  • Ensure all practices and documentation are in alignment with FBOP's Statement of Work (SOW)
  • Adherence to all relevant FBOP policies and procedures.
  • Monitors resident alignment with legal requirements (Judgment & Sentence, warrants with law enforcement, etc.)

 

What you'll bring

  • BA/BS degree in the human services, social sciences or related field required.
  • 2 years of experience in the human services, criminal justice or correctional system(s) or related field.
  • Must become certified in the LS/CMI risk-needs assessment within 90 days of hire. Certification will be part of new employee training process.
  • Must go through Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) training within first month of hire.
  • Must become certified in Moral Reconation Therapy program within one year of hire. Certification will come from outside contractors.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain security clearances as required by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP).
  • Must pass and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Employees who operate their own or PHS vehicles on PHS business, must have a safe driving record as defined by PHS.
  • Employees who operate their own vehicle(s) on PHS business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of PHS.

 

Preferably you'll bring

  • Master’s Degree in the human services, social sciences or related field.
  • 3 years’ experience in the human services, criminal justice or correctional system(s) or related field.
  • Case management experience.
  • Software and Equipment Used: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SecureManage.
  • Certifications or previous training in evidence-based criminogrenic risk assessments, cognitive behavioral programming and motivational interviewing.
