The mission of our schools is to educate responsible citizen scholars for success in a college of their choice and a life of active citizenship. Core to achieving this mission is the aspect of parent choice. Our Canvasser executes the student recruitment tactics and community outreach work needed to fill seats for the twelve schools in the Democracy Prep Public Schools in New York City. With a strong understanding of the communities where Democracy Prep operates, the Canvasser implements efforts to find families to inquire about and in most cases apply to our schools.

What You’ll Do:
- Community Engagement: Under the direction of the Director of Enrollment and Enrollment Managers, you will drive inquiries and applications by tabling at community events, organizations, schools, and other frequented locations.
- Strategic Planning: Create and execute a canvassing plan and schedule targeting specific areas and organizations for student recruitment.
- Relationship Building: Leverage existing relationships and develop new ones within the community to engage families about enrollment opportunities at DPNY schools.
- Event Support: Assist the enrollment team with ongoing activities and events such as school fairs and Open House events.
- Data Management: Enter inquiries and applications into our tracking systems and databases.
- Additional Tasks: Complete other enrollment and marketing-related tasks as designated by the Senior Director of Enrollment and Family Engagement and the Director of Enrollment.
Ideal candidate:
- Language Skills: Spanish speaking candidates are highly preferred.
- Community Connections: Extensive relationships within the community, including CBOs and a wide network of community organizations..
- Strategic Ability: Proven ability to develop and implement canvassing strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Admissions Knowledge: In depth knowledge of admissions processes and best practices.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience: We look forward to reviewing applications from anybody who has a passion for family school choice and educational equity but applicants with the following experience will be prioritized:
- at least 2 years of canvassing experience in any capacity OR
- at least 1 year of experience working in any capacity in a New York City Charter School OR
- extensive knowledge of the Democracy Prep's work; Democracy Prep alumni, parents, guardians, or others connecting directly with our community are highly encouraged to apply.
Training: Training will be provided as needed.
Compensation:
Pay is $25/hour with a schedule that is one day a week for 8 hours (a total of $200/day).
