Search for Common Ground, seeks the services of a Research Consultant who can lead the planning and conduct conflict analysis across six geo-political zones to identify key conflicts affecting L-PRES projects in Nigeria. In this consultancy, Search is primarily interested in understanding the trends and background of the conflict in the project being implemented.

Position Summary
The Research Consultant is responsible for conducting a desk review of existing materials, offline and online, to analyze the types of conflict that focus on micro-water shed management and identify the types of conflict that will risk project delivery and make recommendations for addressing such. Develop a detailed report to provide an analysis of the causes of the identified conflicts, trends, dynamics, and effects on the project investment and target beneficiaries. It will also identify incidents associated with the conflict that may impact project implementation (i.e., the ability of community members to gather for meetings and the project to deliver investments and supervise implementation). The report will also differentiate between the types of conflicts that the project is related or not related to and can exacerbate the conflict. The conflict analysis report will also elaborate on how the project should distinguish between conflicts that originate between groups and those at higher levels and the recommendations for Project implementation. The conflict analysis is expected to cover the 20 states in the Six geo-political zones in Nigeria + FCT.
The Consultant will also participate in a one-day dialogue session where the summary of the findings will be presented to the L-Pres Federal Project Management Unit ( FPMU) and State Project Management Unit (SPMUs) to validate and add inputs into the document before finalization of the report.
The Research Consultant will be paid an agreed daily rate for the number of days worked with preference for availability between 20th to 31st October 2024 for the assignment. S/he will work closely with the Design Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Manager in delivering the assignment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Has the responsibility for conducting the analysis of the types of conflicts in relation to micro-water shed management that the project will address.
- Facilitate a one-day dialogue session with Search and IPCR team to enable L-Press FPMU and SPMUs to validate and add inputs into the document before finalization of the analysis report.
- Develop a detailed report with clear recommendations.
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the Consultant may be required to undertake other duties broadly in line with the above key duties.

Required Experience & Education
- An advanced Degree or Qualification in Monitoring and Evaluation and Research. Qualification in Conflict Resolution, International Relations or related field would be an added benefit.
- At least five (5) years of experience in leading Research and relevant studies within the NGO sector.
- Relevant experience working in the non-profit and NGO sector.
- Substantial experience working with government officials, NGOs and communities;
Other Relevant Requirements
- Good knowledge of the local languages will be an asset.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to identify issues and to use sound judgment in applying technical expertise to resolve a wide range of problems;
- Knowledge of other languages spoken in the states will be an advantage;
- Strong command of English language, with excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal communication skills;
- A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace; and
- Ability to prioritize, plan and organize workflow to tight timeframes, handle multiple tasks, and be flexible with changing priorities.
