As we build our digital platform and continue to scale, we are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to lead the development of data and analytics for our Marketing and Finance departments. The role is crucial in overseeing the creation and enhancement of data-driven insights with a strong emphasis on actionable intelligence. You will be responsible for delivering innovative BI solutions that empower our teams with critical insights, while also maturing our capabilities based on your vision for the space.
At sweetgreen, a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer is more than a data analyst. This role is not about “tell me what to do, and I’ll generate the reports”, this role is about guiding the team in ideating and making the right data-driven decisions for our customers and company. BI engineers are trusted partners to business stakeholders and their teammates and play an important role in driving the collection, measurement, and usage of sweetgreen’s data. They are responsible for delivering key insights and reporting to power decision making throughout the business. They work with our Product Managers and business partners to deliver on our roadmap of dashboards, new measurement techniques and analyses, and surfacing self-service data sets to ensure that our business teams are empowered to take action against data.
This role is based at our Los Angeles Corporate Office and must be willing to work 4 days in-office.
Your Responsibilities

Advanced Data Analysis and Strategic Insight — Conduct complex data analysis operations to extract deep insights and provide strategic recommendations that drive critical business decisions and competitive advantage.

Leadership in Reporting and Visualization — Lead the development and optimization of advanced reports and dashboards, ensuring they deliver clear, impactful data visualizations that align with senior management's strategic needs.

Data Governance and Quality Control — Oversee data collection processes, ensuring high standards of data integrity and security. Implement and maintain data governance practices to ensure data quality across the organization.

Stakeholder Engagement and Advisory — Act as a key advisor to business units and executive management, interpreting data findings and recommending data-driven strategies. Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to ensure alignment of BI initiatives with organizational goals.

Innovation and Process Leadership — Lead initiatives to improve and innovate BI processes and tools. Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance analytical capabilities and business outcomes.

Leading future state — Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and design trends to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge in the market. Foster a culture of learning and experimentation within the team.
Your Accomplishments & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, data science, or a related field
- Customer-oriented attitude and ability to tell a compelling and actionable story with data
- Strong SQL skills (Snowflake)
- Ability to design and operationalize efficient data sources (data modeling, ETL, etc.)
- Familiarity with Python for data analysis and scheduling in Airflow
- Strong data visualization skills and experience with data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau)
- Track record of delivering data-driven outcomes and insights, and influencing business and technology decisions.
- Passionate about food. Ideally, you know what you eat, and you realize how important it is to connect people and communities to real food.
