Role Overview

The Financial Times, one of the world’s leading business news organizations, is recognized internationally for its authority, integrity, and accuracy. The FT Professional division is responsible for licensing the FT’s content to organizations around the world and offers information solutions ranging from group and enterprise subscriptions to customized data feeds.We are seeking an experienced and highly driven business development manager to help us grow our corporate, government, and non-profit client base on the East Coast. We have seen significant growth in this region in the last few years, the role will entail selling corporate licenses to small, medium, and large businesses across all sectors, with a particular focus on financial services and professional services. The business development manager will be required to develop and execute a strategic sales plan targeting several sectors and will be supported from the New York office by our marketing team and a sales development representative.

What You’ll Do

  • To personally be responsible for the achievement of the new business target.
  • To ensure that top prospects and gaps for new business are identified for the sectors.
  • To be responsible for the development and implementation of the sales plan for the sectors.  
  • To manage the assigned travel budget effectively to meet face-to-face with the highest number of new business prospects.
  • To work closely with the marketing team to help prioritize and drive activities that will support the achievement of the new business targets.
  • To work closely with the customer success team to plan and prioritize activity to support the goal of securing new business.
  • To ensure prospecting tools available are capitalized upon e.g Linkedin, Cognism, etc.
  • To be acknowledged as the expert for your sectors, keep up to date with market & competitor developments and can speak with confidence on the FTs value proposition for these sectors.
  • To prioritize face-to-face meetings with new prospects to build strong relationships at a senior level and with other stakeholders within the company.  This will lead to a better understanding of requirements and subsequently cement growth.
  • To represent the FT at relevant industry events to establish contacts and gain insights on sector trends.
  • Document all sales activity in Salesforce, follow up on all leads promptly and keep the pipeline updated.
  • Feedback on customer insight to assist with product development.

Who You Are:

  • Track record in developing new business and of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Experience in solution based sales, ideally in the online information industry.
  • Experience in selling to senior management.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills and the ability to speak with confidence about the FT’s value proposition.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • High level of initiative, motivation and ability to network both internally and externally to identify opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed influencing skills to gain commitment from clients and internal colleagues
  • Previous experience selling into the corporations, government, or non-profit sectors would be highly advantageous

This position pays in the range of $75,000-80,785 depending on experience, however, for prior domain expertise, this band could be reviewed. The disclosed range estimate is for our NYC office and has not been adjusted for other locations.
