This role is based in Berlin and is a fixed term contract until the end of August 2025
Please note – this is a locally engaged position, where you must be based in Germany and have the legal right to work in Berlin/Germany.
The key focus in this role will be using your expert knowledge, contacts and commercial tenacity to help New Zealand businesses grow bigger, better, faster in northern Europe.
Who are we - Ko Te Taurapa Tūhono tēnei
Te Taurapa Tūhono | New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is New Zealand's international business development agency. We work with some of New Zealand’s most forward-thinking companies, helping them to grow internationally bigger, better, faster for the benefit of New Zealand. Based out of the New Zealand Embassy in Berlin we service New Zealand companies interested in establishing and growing in northern Europe, with a particular focus on Germany, Sweden and Denmark.
What you'll be doing: Te whakamahere
Europe offers great opportunities for New Zealand companies across a range of sectors especially in niche manufacturing, and technology (health, agritech and multi-sector) sectors. Our team in Berlin is evolving and we are looking for another highly motivated, self-starting Business Development Manager to help New Zealand businesses enter and thrive in these markets.
You will proactively support companies to develop and execute their business growth plans. Drawing on your own experience, knowledge, networks, and collaborating with NZTE colleagues and specialist advisers you will help companies’ senior leaders and in-market managers navigate the nuances of these key northern European markets. Your strength will be in identifying potential partners and opportunities, and further developing and growing new channels to market.
You will be responsible for a portfolio across a range of sectors, including niche manufacturing, and technology (health, agritech and multi-sector). If you have experience in these sectors and a curiosity to learn more, we would love to hear from you. Our customers are active across traditional channels (consumer & B2B) and increasingly eCommerce. You will manage a busy portfolio of companies with varying work intensity and would expect to spend a proportion of time liaising (whether in person or virtually under the current circumstances) with customers, their partners and industry contacts to develop your network connections.
What you'll need to be successful: Ō Pūkenga
You will need to be a superb relationship manager and team player with excellent local networks and a solid understanding of one or more of the sectors and markets, highlighted earlier. Your commercial acumen combined with your resourcefulness will assist you to manage a busy portfolio of companies.
Superior communication and expectation management skills are critical, as is the ability to build credibility and trust quickly and a willingness to 'roll up your sleeves' and do whatever is required to set your clients on a course for success. You will understand how to develop and leverage industry networks. Your enthusiastic, 'can-do' attitude, proactive nature, creative problem-solving skills and ability to work in virtual teams will be critical to your success. Fluent English and German is necessary for this role, Scandinavian languages would also be beneficial, but not essential.
