Abcam is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to support the development of strategic partnerships and driving revenue growth within the life sciences industry. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in Business Development, Sales, or Licensing roles, with a particular emphasis on leading commercial negotiations and cultivating relationships with platform developers, diagnostic, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Partnership Development:
    • Collaborate across the Business Development and Sales teams to identify, prioritize, and pursue strategic collaboration opportunities with diagnostic, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies
    • Utilize Abcam's diverse product portfolio, expertise, and innovative capabilities to create mutual value and drive innovation in commercial research, diagnostics, and companion diagnostics sectors
  2. Market Analysis and Opportunity Assessment:
    • Conduct market analysis and due diligence to evaluate potential partnership opportunities and align them with Abcam's strategic objectives
    • Stay informed about emerging trends, customer needs, and technological advancements in the life sciences industry to inform strategic decision-making and capitalize on new opportunities
  3. Commercial Negotiation and Execution:
    • Lead the negotiation and execution of commercial licensing agreements and strategic partnerships for research reagents, diagnostic assays, and companion diagnostics, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
    • Collaborate with key teams including Sales, Legal, and Finance to structure and negotiate licensing agreements that can be supported to drive long-term customer engagement, including pricing, royalties, milestone payments and collaborative R&D programmes
  4. Team Collaboration and Development:
    • Collaborate effectively within the Business Development team and cross-functional stakeholders, to drive impactful results and achieve business objectives
    • Provide support to team members, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and customer-centricity
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, business administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or licensing roles within the life sciences industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading commercial negotiations and structuring complex agreements.
  • Strong strategic mindset, analytical skills, and business acumen.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Deep understanding of commercial research, diagnostics, and companion diagnostics markets.
