Under the direction of the Medical Center's Biomedical Engineering Supervisor or under the guidance of the Biomedical Technician Lead; the Biomedical Systems Technician II is responsible for maintaining, repairing, upgrading, and inspecting biomedical/clinical the Medical Center's clinical electronic systems and related systems, and specific computer systems.
Core Competencies
- Works both on the test bench and within the Medical Center to perform preventive maintenance, electrical safety checks, equipment repairs and calibration on the Medical Center’s biomedical equipment and systems.
- Works with Medical Center Staff through in-service training to make sure that all staff members are familiar with correct operation of the equipment.
- Keeps test equipment calibrated and uses diagnostic skills to perform basic test bench equipment repairs.
- Helps maintain inventories and equipment records on every piece of electrical equipment within the Medical Center.
- Uses materials, maintains records, and keeps track of work conditions in such a way that accurate and necessary inventory levels of parts, materials, and tools are always met.
- Performs daily rounds to insure that all equipment is performing to manufacturers specifications on a continuous basis.
- Responds to work orders.
- Initiates repairs to the system and its components.
- Demonstrates knowledge of safety principles.
- Performs periodic preventive maintenance on the system and its components to ensure continuous performance.
- Helps maintain records and drawings of the complete system and its repairs.
- Calls in outside vendors for repairs when necessary, and ensures that all work done to the system meets Medical Center Standards as directed.
- Interprets regulatory standards and demonstrates current knowledge of local, state, and national standards/ codes/ regulations via use of appropriate resources.
- Inspects, tests, repairs and replaces electrical and electronics circuits, equipment and appliances.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sectional drawings, technical specification and manufacturer's equipment bulletins or recalls.
- Prioritizes, organizes, and handles multiple projects simultaneously.
- Maintains cooperative working relationships with members of the hospital team
- Notifies Assistant Director of Engineering immediately of any deviations from the norm.
- Uses independent judgment in meeting emergency situations.
