The Opportunity

Reporting to the Audio-Visual Supervisor, this position functions as a key resource responsible for leading and/or facilitating audio visual (AV) services required to implement all aspects of AV related operations and projects throughout SAIT’s campuses.
 
The role works in collaboration with ITS leadership to secure resources in the delivery of AV at SAIT, as well as acting as a liaison with vendors, reviewing system requirements, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring technology integrations are seamless.
 
They are responsible for providing a broad range of complex audio visual and media services at SAIT, including, but not limited to, classrooms and meeting rooms. This includes developing and using information management, planning, operational, and record keeping systems required to support, track, and organize the planning and development activities of AV operations.
 
The workplace for this position is on-campus at SAIT; must be able and willing to comply with COVID regulations, adhering to all SAIT, Alberta and Canadian policies and procedures.

The Role

  • Serves as the vendor liaison/contract coordinator; coordinates and implements AV system installations, upgrades, and lifecycle refreshes in new and existing classrooms and other campus locations.
  • Develops schedules and facilitates the work of AV vendor technicians and consultants employed in providing services to SAIT and ensures compliance to AV standards quality, budget, and schedule.
  • Inspects work for completeness of trade personnel, consultants, and contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of services within the policies and guidelines of SAIT.
  • Serves as a contact with faculty and other support staff in the daily AV operations at SAIT.
  • Develops instructional materials to support faculty & staff regarding all classroom technology usage, training, and support.
  • Assists in establishing appropriate AV standards (teaching equipment, digital signage, etc.) for new construction or renovations of SAIT facilities.
  • Develops and advises on specifications related to the design and implementation of AV equipment and systems for the classroom, and other campus facilities.
  • Remains current on all required AV technologies; stays abreast of evolving technology platforms and recommends changes to replace outdated technology.
  • Recommends procedures for maintenance and sustainability of AV installations on campus.
  • Recommends AV equipment purchases; receives and coordinates the installation of AV hardware in classrooms and instructional spaces.
  • Coordinates all shipping, storage, and receiving on SAIT’s campuses including testing, ensuring equipment is in good working order.
  • Responsible for inventory control, record keeping and tracking as required to support AV at SAIT.
  • Maintains equipment warranties with vendors and maintains effective relationships with external AV vendor and specialists.
  • Represents ITS regarding renovation projects regarding AV planning, designing, acquisition, installation, and configuration.
  • Participates in Request for Proposal & Request for Information processes and confirms proper functioning and delivery of all AV systems prior to the release of holdback funds.
  • Develops and maintains effective and professional working relationships with internal SAIT departments and external contacts.
  • Communicates, verbally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders to request and provide information.
  • Consults on designs and specifications for new or renovated campus facilities and maintains appropriate records related to AV equipment infrastructure.
  • Works with planning consultants to develop and coordinate AV related space and facility planning requirements.
  • Participates in all planning meetings with facilities management, architects, engineers, and consultants, including AV scheduling and action item follow-up.
  • Tracks, monitors, and follows up on due dates and deadlines related to AV project and operational activities.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum:
  • 2-year Post-Secondary Diploma in AV Electronics or related technology
  • Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
  • 3+ years of technical experience that involves installation, testing, and evaluation of AV hardware and software and in AV including projection systems, audio systems, interactive displays, and AV design and development tools and systems.
  • Experience with AV, electronic classroom and computer systems, projection, and video equipment including break-fix support for multimedia and A/V connections.
  • Familiarity with construction / installation methods, and experience installing AV/media technology and hardware in existing classrooms, instructional spaces, or other venues.
  • Demonstrated proficiency at the intermediate to advanced skill level in the use of Windows-based and Mac-based platforms that included digital video signal processing and display and presentation capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills; and the ability to work in a busy work environment with multiple project timelines, shifting priorities and requests for assistance, while remaining self-motivated and flexible.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

  • Preferred:
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification
  • AV vendor specific certifications
  • 2-year Post-Secondary Diploma or 4-year Post-Secondary Degree in AV Electronics or related technology
  • 5+ years of current practical experience in a similar position and working environment including working on AV projects.
  • Experience with AV related room control / monitoring / management systems (e.g., Extron and Crestron)
  • Experience developing highly effective, standardized AV/media technology solutions for classrooms and/or other venues.
  • AV project leadership experience that includes oversight of vendors; ability to train and/or identify needed training/development of end users of provided technology.
  • Familiarity with setting up and maintaining Microsoft Teams rooms, Zoom and related technology

Job Classification: P2054 - Programmer Analyst II
Hours Per week: 37.5 hours
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
