Imagine a world where illness is optional. At Viome, our goal is to digitize, decode, and decipher human biology to prevent, treat, and cure chronic diseases and cancer. In order to enhance our understanding of the origin and progression of diseases, we use a systems biology approach combined with mRNA analysis and our state-of-the-art artificial intelligence platform. Our direct-to-consumer service analyzes gene expressions (mRNA) in order to provide individuals with health insights and precision nutrition to live a healthier life. This platform of ~300,000 samples enables us to enhance our understanding of human biology as a system in order to develop predictive biomarkers, precision diagnostics, and precision therapeutics to prevent and intercept chronic diseases. 

As an Automation Engineer II at Viome Life Sciences, located in Bothell, you will play a vital role in our automation department, contributing to the development and optimization of automated processes that are essential to our operations.

Responsibilities

  • Expertise in maintaining and optimizing highly complex instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of hardware design for laboratory processes.
  • Design appropriate hardware layouts for processes.
  • Develop and validate pipetting techniques for accuracy, precision, and speed.
  • Analyze workflows, identify bottlenecks, and improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve errors in automated systems.
  • Ability to make recommendations for process continuation and improvements.
  • Troubleshoot errors during production, both user errors and instrument failures.
  • Make recommendations for production continuation.
  • Provide real-time operational support to maintain production processes.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python) and object-oriented programming.
  • Ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot scripts for automated systems.
  • Define labware and fluid profiles for automated liquid handling instruments.
  • Optimize pipetting accuracy, precision, and speed.
  • Experience with scripting and/or object-oriented software development.
  • Effective communication skills to interface with management, departments, and vendors.
  • Collaboration abilities to work with cross-functional teams and develop solutions.
  • Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop solutions.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in molecular biology and microbiology

Qualifications

  • Possess at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (chemical, physical, biological, engineering, or clinical laboratory science).
