We seek a highly motivated and talented Software Engineering Associate to join our Team Centinel, which works on the backend system that merchants integrate to make secure payment transactions. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of backend technologies and a passion for learning and growth. This role involves working under close guidance to support various backend development tasks, contributing to the creation, debugging, and maintenance of code across products.

Essential Function:

  • Write, debug, and maintain backend code to support various programs and applications.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge and proactively seek new knowledge to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and team members, asking questions and seeking guidance to understand project requirements and improve solution strategies.
  • Apply best practices in backend programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Ruby) and follow secure coding practices.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of APIs to support product features.
  • Support database and server management tasks, ensuring data integrity and performance.
  • Participate in integrating backend systems with other components to ensure seamless functionality.
  • Identify, escalate, and assist in resolving bugs that impact backend functionality.
  • Apply secure coding practices to ensure the security of the code, following OWASP principles.
  • Identify opportunities for automation to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of systems and tools.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by applying and developing coding standards, design patterns, and best practices.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Fundamental knowledge of backend languages such as Java, Python, or Ruby.
  • API Development: Basic understanding of API development and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with database management systems and server management.
  • Basic knowledge of integrating backend systems with other components.
  • Understanding of data structures and their application in backend development.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and development standards required to ensure code remains secure, including OWASP principles.
  •  Knowledge of GenAI, Copilot, and other AI tools is a plus.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 2 or more years of work experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
    • Internship or academic project experience in software development is preferred.
    • Basic proficiency in backend programming languages, API generation, and database management.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
    • Experience with version control systems like Git.
    • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
    • Ability to document code and processes clearly.

    Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

    Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

    Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

    U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 65,300.00 to 92,200.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
